Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Chris D. Johnson, SP Ian Kennedy, OF Gerardo Parra, SS Cliff Pennington and RP's Tony Sipp and Brad Ziegler were among the 133 players to file salary arbitration this week. This is the first time Johnson, Kennedy, Parra, Sipp and Pennington have been eligible for arbitration. Ziegler has been eligible for arbitration the past two seasons, and last year avoided a hearing when he and the Diamondbacks settled on a one-year deal worth $1.795 million.

The Oakland Athletics committed five errors in their game against the Seattle Mariners Friday, April 1, according to The Associated Press. 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff made two errors and 1B Daric Barton, SS Cliff Pennington and RP Brad Ziegler had one apiece. It was the Athletics' first five-error game since July 6, 2007, also against the Mariners.

Although there is no timetable for Oakland Athletics RP Andrew Bailey's (forearm) return to the mound, he is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day after straining his forearm Monday, March 14, according to MLB.com's Jane Lee. Fuentes, who has not given up a run in five outings this spring, is the likely candidate to take over the closer's role while Bailey recovers. However, the team could use a closer-by-committee approach when the season opens based on matchups. RPs Grant Balfour, Michael Wuertz, Brad Ziegler, Craig Breslow and Joey Devine could be possibilities.
