Tue, 23 Apr 2013 13:08:19 -0700 New York Mets manager Terry Collins said SP Shaun Marcum (neck) will make his season debut against the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday, April 27.
Mon, 22 Apr 2013 16:26:37 -0700 New York Mets SP Shaun Marcum (neck) tossed five scoreless innings in extended spring training Monday, April 22, and he's on track to make his season debut Saturday, April 27, against the Philadelphia Phillies. He struck out four and walked none while giving up three hits. Fantasy Tip: When healthy, Marcum can be a very useful starter for your fantasy rotation. And it looks as though he's finally healthy after battling through multiple injuries this spring. If he's still out there on your mixed league waiver wire, he's worth consideration.
Sun, 21 Apr 2013 12:05:20 -0700 New York Mets SP Shaun Marcum (neck) is scheduled to throw 70-75 pitches in a rehab start Monday, April 22. If all goes well, he would likely start against the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday, April 27. Manager Terry Collins said he would be limited to throwing 90-95 pitches in his first MLB start of the season.
Fri, 19 Apr 2013 13:09:20 -0700 New York Mets SP Shaun Marcum (neck) pitched in extended spring training Thursday, April 18, and didn't have any setbacks. He will try to get up to 80 pitches in his next outing. Fantasy Tip: Marcum is getting close to being able to return to the majors, so keep him on your watch list in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues. The Mets signed him to anchor their rotation, so expect Aaron Laffey to get bumped out when Marcum is ready.
Mon, 15 Apr 2013 15:13:40 -0700 New York Mets SP Shaun Marcum (neck) will throw three to four innings on a back field Thursday, April 18, so he will not return this weekend. Fantasy Tip: It's good news that Marcum is already up to three or four innings and hasn't had any recent setbacks, but he still may not be an option for the Mets' rotation until next month. Continue to track his progress.
Wed, 10 Apr 2013 14:53:36 -0700 The New York Mets believe that they can have SP Shaun Marcum (neck) ready relatively quickly after he's eligible to return from the disabled list. He is scheduled to throw two innings in a simulated game in a few days. Marcum will need to ramp up to five innings and possibly throw in a rehab game in Florida before returning. Fantasy Tip: The Mets may try to rush Marcum back because of their lack of other attractive starting pitching options. There's no guarantee he'll be back soon, however, since he'll need plenty of outings to be up to full speed, assuming he has no setbacks. If he does come back quickly, it probably wouldn't be wise to rely on him in your fantasy rotation that soon.
Mon, 08 Apr 2013 13:11:32 -0700 New York Mets SP Shaun Marcum (neck) is only playing catch and is not close to a return. The Mets will wait to use SP Aaron Laffey again until Tuesday, April 16.
Fri, 05 Apr 2013 14:22:14 -0700 New York Mets manager Terry Collins said there is no timetable on SP Shaun Marcum (neck), and it could be two weeks before the team knows more on his condition. Fantasy Tip: Forget what the Mets said yesterday when they listed Marcum as day-to-day. He'll basically need to go through another spring training before being ready to pitch in the majors, so it's going to be a while. He should probably be dropped in most leagues.
Thu, 04 Apr 2013 14:06:26 -0700 New York Mets SP Shaun Marcum's (neck) MRI exam showed nerve inflammation in his neck. He will return to Florida and rest for 48 hours. He is considered day-to-day at this point. Fantasy Tip: Marcum also received injections to try and calm the inflammation. It's probably safe to drop him in deep mixed leagues unless he's holding one of your DL spots. Prepare for a more extended absence from Marcum at this point.
