Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa likely headed to DL

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 13:56:26 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) appears bound to begin the regular season on the disabled list because of recurring tightness in his right groin. Although manager Walt Weiss is not going to make an official announcement until he has to, De La Rosa has been limited to playing catch and is not scheduled for any bullpen sessions. Weiss also noted the injury may be a long-term issue. "This is something he's had several times before, so you can categorize it as being chronic," Weiss said. "That being the case, we want to make sure he's good to go so this thing doesn't pop up again."

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa's wins are nice, but they come with awful ratios, as he has averaged a 6.4 K/9, a 3.81 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP over the past two seasons. Add this injury scare and pitching his home games in Coors Field, and there is little reason to roster him outside NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, and even then he is a low-end arm.

Rockies | Positive reports on Jorge De La Rosa

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 16:12:56 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) said an MRI exam on his left groin showed "nothing bad." However, it's unknown when he will pitch in a spring game again or whether he can make his scheduled start in the team's April 10 home opener. He has dealt with groin tightness throughout the spring. De La Rosa was scheduled to play catch Monday, March 23.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa is mainly an NL-only fantasy commodity. He's pitching in one of the best hitter's parks in the league, and he often struggles with control, making him wildly unpredictable. After a career-high 9.4 K/9 in 2009, De La Rosa has also become less of a strikeout pitcher.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa to miss next start

Sun, 22 Mar 2015 14:34:22 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) will miss his next start due to groin issues, and it is uncertain when he will return to the mound.

Fantasy Tip: Any fantasy value De La Rosa had likely declined for the time being. Despite having 15 victories on average each season, this could be an issue that hampers the Rockies standout for a while. It's best to avoid De La Rosa for this reason.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa dealing with soreness

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 14:50:16 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) reached his pitch limit after 2 1/3 innings and left his start with left groin soreness Friday, March 20, according to the team.

Fantasy Tip: Restrict De La Rosa to NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, and he only offers low-end value in those formats. While the 33-year-old lefty has averaged 15 wins the past two seasons, his 6.4 K/9, 3.81 ERA and 1.31 WHIP are undesirable returns in the majority of formats. Add the Coors Field factor, and De La Rosa is likely best avoided.

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa to open at home

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 22:23:44 -0700

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa will start the team's home opener Friday, April 10, against the Chicago Cubs, manager Walt Weiss announced Wednesday, March 18.

Fantasy Tip: JDLR holds a 45-14 lifetime record at Coors Field, so FantasyScore owners will certainly want to remember him at just $4,700 (or 9.4% of cap).

Rockies | Jorge De La Rosa pushed back

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 13:23:51 -0800

Colorado Rockies SP Jorge De La Rosa (groin) will skip his first spring start Saturday, March 7, due to left groin tightness. De La Rosa will have his start pushed back to Thursday, March 12, against the Milwaukee Brewers. De La Rosa said the move is strictly precautionary. He went 14-11 with a 4.10 ERA in 2014, including 10-2 with a 3.08 ERA at Coors Field.

Fantasy Tip: De La Rosa is the Rockies' No. 1 starter heading into the 2015 season, but fantasy owners often shy away from Rockies starters, for good reason. He has improved his WHIP in each of the last two seasons, but the fact that he's been under 7.0 strikeouts per nine in each of the last three seasons doesn't bode well for him. De La Rosa is strictly an NL-only starting option.
