The Miami Dolphins hired former Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator George Edwards as their new linebackers coach and Zac Taylor as their assistant quarterbacks coach Monday, Jan. 30. Tight ends coach Dan Campbell and special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi will be retained.

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey denied a radio report that stated that defensive coordinator George Edwards was no longer calling the plays during games. The report stated that inside linebacker coach Dave Wannstedt had taken over the play-calling duties.

Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills assistant head coach Dave Wannstedt will also coach the team's inside linebackers this year, reports Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com. Wannstedt has 36 years of coaching experience, including serving as a head coach with the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears. Wannstedt will assist defensive coordinator George Edwards in addition to his inside linebacker coaching duties.

According to Mark Maske, of the Washington Post, the Washington Redskins are contemplating making several changes to the team's defense. Defensive coordinator George Edwards said the team is considering creating expanded pass-rushing roles for LB LaVar Arrington and DE Ladairis Jackson. The team also plans to give DE Regan Upshaw more time and possibly curtail DE Bruce Smith's time to keep him fresh. Edwards also said that they may spend more time in the 3-4 defensive alignment. "We've used it in the past," Edwards said. "We'll see. We're in the early stages right now of [preparing for] Buffalo, and we're going to run what we deem necessary to get them stopped."

The Star-Telegram reports, according to a source, Dallas Cowboys linebackers coach George Edwards has told the University of Florida to look elsewhere for a defensive coordinator. Edwards apparently has decided to return for a fifth NFL season with the Cowboys.
