Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren said the team plans to give offensive coordinator Gil Haskell a new title. The title will be similar to the "assistant head coach" title given to secondary coach Jim Mora. Haskell will remain the second-ranking assistant on the staff.

Steve Corkran, of the Contra Costa Times, reports Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Gil Haskell said Tuesday, Jan. 31, that he is interested in meeting with Oakland Raiders managing general partner Al Davis about the team's vacant head coaching position. Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren has lobbied on Haskell's behalf. However, Haskell has not received any interview requests this year. "Mike pushed it," Haskell told reporters in Detroit for the Super Bowl. "I really appreciate that. I've always wanted the opportunity. I'd love to talk (to the Raiders). No one's called. That's where it stands right now."

The Associated Press reports Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren has been lobbying the past week for offensive coordinator Gil Haskell to get a shot at one of the head coaching jobs that will become available after the 2005 season ends. Haskell has been a league assistant for the past 23 years. Holmgren stated that Haskell's meticulous game planning and tireless work ethic as some reasons why he should be a head coach next year.

The Seattle Times reports Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren took off the headset and had offensive coordinator Gil Haskell call plays in the second half of the team's preseason game Friday, August 12. "I'm trying to get the rust off my play-calling, too," Holmgren said. "We had a little bit of a lead in the first half. And then Gil needs to prepare himself to do that. We'll do that, on occasion, in the preseason."

ESPN.com reports Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren missed the second day of a team minicamp Tuesday, June 7, a day after he complained of chest discomfort. Holmgren went to a hospital after experiencing the discomfort Monday, June 6. Tests disclosed nothing unusual, but doctors advised him to take two days off from work to rest. Offensive coordinator Gil Haskell ran Tuesday's practice. Holmgren is expected to return later in the week.

Seahawks.com reports Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Gil Haskell is meticulous in his approach to developing the team's offensive playbook. "Every practice and every play I do offensively, and it takes me three weeks to put it together," said Haskell. "In the morning the offensive staff meets as a group, we look at our plays from last year -- for example, red zone. How did we do in the red zone? How did we do on third and six? We do that and then I'll put that together."
