Packers | Mike McCarthy would rest Aaron Rodgers again

Thu, 29 Mar 2012 07:38:29 -0700

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said if he had to do it all over again, he'd still rest QB Aaron Rodgers in the meaningless Week 17 finale against the Detroit Lions with homefield advantage wrapped up. Some critics believe rust was the reason the Packers lost to the New York Giants in the NFC divisional playoffs. "As far as sitting players, I wouldn't change that at all," McCarthy said. "A fresh team is the best team because you can accomplish the things you need to accomplish leading up to that game if you go about it the right way."

Tue, 10 Jan 2012 05:06:31 -0800

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said he is not concerned with some New York Giants players guaranteeing victory in their Divisional Round playoff matchup. "I would expect a team playing in the Divisional playoff round to think they should win the game," McCarthy said. "We fully expect to win the game. What are they supposed to say, 'We're going to lose'?"

Mon, 26 Dec 2011 06:33:31 -0800

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said he will play to win the game in Week 17; however, he also added that he wants his team to get healthy entering the playoffs. "We're going to play to win the game next week," McCarthy said. "I'm not real comfortable with a division opponent coming in here and not thinking we're going to play to get win No. 15." QB Aaron Rodgers added he thinks the team should worry more about getting healthy with the No. 1 seed in the NFC locked up. "I think we need to get healthy," Rodgers said. "That's the main thing. Now that we have the top seed sewed up, the priorities may shift a bit."

Packers | Aaron Rodgers feels no workouts necessary

Fri, 01 Jul 2011 07:07:49 -0700

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers doesn't have any problem heading into the 2011 season as the team defends their Super Bowl championship without having had any player-run practices. Rodgers made it clear it's not an issue for him, his coach or his teammates. "We did have a great gathering in Green Bay a few Thursdays ago," Rodgers said. "Other than that, we haven't had anything official. And the reasoning is that guys' schedules and the risk-reward, which I think (coach) Mike McCarthy hit on. So I'm going to allow his comments to kind of answer that question as he did a couple of weeks ago. Mike has always been a big supporter of the work we do individually. I'll just refer to what Mike said as far as some of that stuff goes and just leave it at that."

Green Bay Packers DT B.J. Raji is feeling more comfortable in the team's 3-4 defense this offseason after Green Bay has had Raji focus mainly on the starting nose tackle position, reports the Green Bay Press Gazette's Kareem Copeland. Packers | Focus on air attack in Week 15

Mon, 21 Dec 2009 09:23:35 -0800

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said following Week 15 that the Pittsburgh Steelers' defensive personnel groups on first and second down influenced his decision to throw the football more often during the game. The Steelers played a lot of base defense on first and second down, and as a result, the Packers had just 12 total rushing attempts in the game for 60 yards. RB Ryan Grant led the team's rushers with 37 yards on eight carries, but 24 yards came on one touchdown run. "Well, frankly, I think it was more the way they played us to our personnel groups," McCarthy said. "They played a lot of base defense on first and second down, and that's really why I went the direction I did with our passing game."

We're not designing new plays and new things, and frankly, that's not the answer. Our production needs to improve in the red zone, no doubt about it," McCarthy said.
