Packers | Mike McCarthy talks play calling

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 06:20:14 -0700

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy discussed his offensive philosophy and play calling with NFL.com:

"The best plays are still the basic plays. It's not the design of the play, it's what everybody can do with that design. That's what we have to get back to ó winning with the fundamentals; with players and not plays. Offensively, we may have leaned a little more toward plays instead of focusing on developing players. That's a big part of my getting back in there full-time (to call the plays). That's how I built this thing and that's how it should be run. We got away from that a little bit."

Fantasy Tip: The Green Bay offense took a step back in 2015, but with Jordy Nelson back, it projects to return to being a fantasy goldmine this season. It sounds like McCarthy wants to simplify the offense and enable his top-tier quarterback to utilize the playmaker's ability to beat coverages. A full and healthy offseason of refine the chemistry of the offense should help all of Aaron Rodgers, Nelson, Randall Cobb and Eddie Lacy. Just note, the best version of this core of Packers may be in the rear-view mirror.

Packers | Mike McCarthy open to two-pointers

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 16:53:26 -0700

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said he would not be averse to attempting a two-point conversion after every touchdown this season. McCarthy believes having QB Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback would give the Packers more of an advantage for two-point attempts.

Fantasy Tip: It may be more common for more prolific scoring offenses to start going for more two-point conversions this season. If Green Bay does implement this strategy, then Mason Crosby's fantasy value would naturally decrease. For now, though, Crosby is still comfortably in the PK1 conversation.

Packers | Mike McCarthy takes back playcalling

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 11:42:00 -0800

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy returned to his play-calling duties in Week 14 as the Packers easily defeated the Dallas Cowboys. Offensive coordinator Tom Clements had been Green Bay's playcaller throughout the season, but McCarthy is expected to take over from now on, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: There seemed to be a new focus on Eddie Lacy and the running game yesterday with McCarthy back at the play-calling helm. The move would seem to bode well for Green Bayís offense as a whole, too, for the last three games of the season. Donít give up on Lacy and the Packers just yet.

Packers | Mike McCarthy may give up play-calling

Mon, 09 Feb 2015 11:55:07 -0800

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is leaning towards ceding play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Tom Clements next season.

Fantasy Tip: The Packers would likely still remain a pass heavy offense with Aaron Rodgers at the helm. McCarthy has been calling plays since 2006, though, so there's bound to be some impact. Rodgers and Eddie Lacy would still remain top-tier options at their position.

Packers | Eddie Lacy probable

Fri, 16 Jan 2015 10:56:20 -0800

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (knee) is listed as probable for the NFC Championship game. Lacy looks good, according to head coach Mike McCarthy.

Fantasy Tip: Lacy will play against the Seahawks, and may see an increase in work due to Aaron Rodgers not being at full strength. Lacy ($7,200, 14.4% of cap) is still a risky option against a good Seattle defense.
