Updating a previous report, the Associated Press reports former Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator George O'Leary was released from a Minnesota hospital Friday, Jan. 2, two days after suffering a mild heart attack. O'Leary, who was hired as the head coach of Central Florida University, will return to Florida in the near future. "I'll be heading down to Central Florida sometime this week," O'Leary said. "Hopefully this weekend. I'll be there as soon as I can be there."

Bill Williamson, of the Pioneer Press, reports former Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator George O'Leary suffered a heart attack on Wednesday, Dec. 31. He is hospitalized in serious, but stable condition, and is expected to be released sometime this weekend. However, O'Leary will have to rest a few weeks before he is allowed to fly to Orlando to assume his role as the new head coach of the University of Central Florida.

Associated Press reports former Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator George O'Leary, who is now the head coach at Central Florida, suffered a mild heart attack Wednesday, Dec. 31. O'Leary, 57, is expected to recovery fully and be released from the hospital in the next few days.

Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator George O'Leary took the Central Florida job, but he'll remain through the season. Vikings head coach Mike Tice insisted that it won't be an issue. Tice has told O'Leary he doesn't want him to miss any time with players.

Updating previous reports, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator George O'Leary said he has no plans to meet with the University of Central Florida. UCF contacted O'Leary last week about interviewing for their vacant head coaching position.

Bill Williamson, of the Pioneer Press, reports there is speculation surrounding Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator George O'Leary about a possible head-coaching job in the NCAA. Central Florida is expected to approach O'Leary about being their new head coach at some point down the road, though there has yet to be contact between the two. Speculation over several college openings also opened up for O'Leary, who has said he would like to be a head coach again, last year.

Vikings | Practice Stresses Fundamentals

Bill Williamson, of the Pioneer Press, reports the Minnesota Vikings, in hopes of solving their recent defensive woes, went back to the basics in Thursday's, Nov. 13, practice. Rather than working as a full unit, the defense split up and worked in position groups, much like they would in training camp. "We wanted to go back to the basics," defensive coordinator George O'Leary said. "Sometimes you have to take a step backwards and work on the fundamentals. That's where we are." Over the last three games, the Vikings have given up an average of 453 yards and 33 points a game.

Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, reports the Minnesota Vikings are pondering whether to trade or release Vikings DE Lorenzo Bromell, who does not get along with Vikings defensive coordinator George O'Leary. Agent Harold Lewis said Bromell and O'Leary were set to have a meeting this week to see if they could work out the problems. Bromell has fallen on the depth chart because O'Leary believe he has a penchant for making bad decisions.
