Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said rookie RB Jahvid Best popped up on his NFL Draft radar after offensive coordinator Scott Linehan mentioned how he had been dazzled after watching Best on television. "We were having dinner the night before one of the games," Schwartz said, "and Scott said, 'Wow, have you seen that running back from Cal? Man, what I would do for a running back like that. That guy's just really - I don't know if he's coming out, what he would do in the draft, but I just watched him play a game and that guy is everything we're looking for.'"

Lions | Linehan wants more from B. Johnson

Nicholas J. Cotsonika, of the Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said he needs more production from WR Bryant Johnson in 2010. Johnson's 35 catches this season tied a career low. Linehan wants a receiver who can help alleviate pressure from WR Calvin Johnson. "We've got to figure out a way for Bryant and anybody else in that No. 2 spot or third spot to be somebody that has got one-on-one coverage that produces in that spot," Linehan said.

He said he's talked to QBs Daunte Culpepper, Jon Kitna and Drew Stanton, and Linehan made it clear the team does not have a frontrunner for the starting job.

Chris Mortensen, of ESPN, reports former St. Louis Rams head coach Scott Linehan was not popular within the locker room with players. Had the Rams won their Week 4 game, Linehan may have kept his job. However, a Week 4 loss entering a bye week made the decision to fire Linehan a timely one.
