Indianapolis Colts LB Dwight Freeney said he is enjoying his role as an outside linebacker when the team uses a 3-4 defensive alignment but concedes it will take time to get used to dropping in coverage. Freeney said he has talked with Baltimore Ravens LB Ray Lewis and FS Ed Reed about the defense and is happy that it has been successful with other teams.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said LB Dwight Freeney is expected to drop back in pass coverage only about five to 10 percent of the time this season. Pagano said want to use Freeney like the Baltimore Ravens use LB Terrell Suggs.

The Indianapolis Colts are open to trading DE Dwight Freeney if they receive the right offer from a team but would be fine with keeping him if no deal is completed. The team would like to restructure his contract because he is scheduled to count $19 million against the salary cap but are willing to keep the figure as is if he does not want to restructure the contract.

There was never a strong possibility that Freeney would be traded in the first place; however, it is clear the Colts are making the defensive line a priority under new head coach Chuck Pagano.
