Richardson, of The Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Jim Bates said the team has had some good individual pressure during games but has not had much of a consistent pass rush. Pat Yasinskas, of ESPN.com, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' defensive scheme under new defensive coordinator Jim Bates should help improve the production of DE Gaines Adams this season, according to defensive line coach Todd Wash. "We've changed some approach angles from the Tampa 2 and Coach Kiff," Wash said. "What we do now is really defensive-end friendly. I think it's going to allow Gaines, and all our ends, to rush the passer more and be more effective. He's not going to be hunkered down on any big defensive tackles in the tight five. He's playing real wide and he's always going to be playing pass first, which is obviously Gaines' strength."

Andrew Mason, of DenverBroncos.com, reports Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jim Bates said the Broncos' defense needs to improve during the rest of the preseason because they have been struggling in some areas during games. "The biggest thing is that we just aren't playing every down and being complete. We're still making too many mistakes and giving up too many big plays. We gave up seven plays for huge yardage, and it was something that can be cleaned up, but it's got to be cleaned up. Bad teams always make excuses that certain plays take you (out of the game), and we have to eliminate the bad plays. But there was a lot of good, too, a lot of positive things, and we've just got to keep improving. It's a new defense, but we have 20 days until our first game and we have to make improvement on a daily basis," Bates said.
