Thu, 20 Oct 2011 06:34:28 -0700

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan said he would have won a couple of Super Bowl titles had he been hired to coach the San Diego Chargers in 2007 instead of head coach Norv Turner. "Well, I think I would have had a couple of rings," Ryan said with a laugh. "I'm telling you, those teams were loaded. There's no question about it. But things happen for a reason. Obviously, Norv Turner has done a great job there, and A.J. (Smith) and everybody. That's a great franchise, and he's probably the best guy for the job at that time." Ryan later called Turner to clarify his remarks, according to a Jets spokesman. Turner, addressing the situation, fired back at Ryan after confirming that the Jets coach had called. "I hadn't seen his quote and I was a little bit surprised by the call, and after I saw the quote I didn't have the chance to ask him this, but I was wondering if he had those rings with the ones he's guaranteed the last couple of years," Turner said.

Chargers | Norv Turner wants to run the football

Mon, 24 May 2010 04:47:37 -0700

San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said he wants to run the football more in 2010, according to Nick Canepa, of the San Diego Union-Tribune. Last season, the Chargers were more geared towards the pass because they had difficulty running the football. "You've got to do what's best, and I believe we know this team better than most," Turner said. "My first year here, LT led the league in rushing and we had good balance. With last year's team going the way it did, we had a productive passing quarterback (QB Philip Rivers) who led the league in 20-yard-plus plays. You have to give your team the best opportunity to win. As we got going last year, we had some games with balance; some games we didn't have balance and still won."
