Chargers | Team to begin offseason coaching sessions

The San Diego Chargers will conduct 14 voluntary offseason coaching sessions over the next five weeks beginning Monday, May 19. The sessions are open to the media with a one day notification but are closed to the public. Head coach Norv Turner and players are available for interviews by request one day in advance. The coaching sessions are voluntary and are not mandatory to attend.

Jerry Magee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner believes his team can improve upon their 14-2 record in 2006. "I look at them and I say, 'Hey, these guys can get a lot better,'" Turner said. "It's not a veteran team that you say, 'OK, we've got to take care of these guys so we can get another year out of them.' These are some guys who are going to play 10 more years. I think you take advantage of the youth and excitement and energy that this team has. That's going to be my big emphasis."

Updating a previous item, Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers secondary coach Brian Stewart will likely be leaving to become the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys. According to sources, head coach Norv Turner informed Stewart Saturday, Feb. 24, he would be released from his contract.

Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports the San Diego Chargers are still putting the final touches on their coaching staff under new head coach Norv Turner. The future of defensive backs coach Brian Stewart remains unclear, as Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips continues to hold out hope that he can lure Stewart to his staff. Phillips has also inquired about hiring assistant linebackers coach John Pagano. "We're still working our way through," general manager A.J. Smith said. "...We're reorganizing our staff in number and structure."
