Arians hopes QB Peyton Manning (neck) will return from neck surgery and play in Indianapolis next season. But with the team also likely to use the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft on a quarterback of the future, Arians is willing to let the rookie play immediately. "There is a new general manager and a new coach. Hopefully Peyton can come back and get ready to go. But, there will be a new quarterback and a new beginning. It's exciting," Arians said.

Mon, 23 Jan 2012 05:44:32 -0800 Updating previous items, former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians announced his retirement Friday, Jan. 20, although team sources said the Steelers chose not to retain Arians, against the wishes of QB Ben Roethlisberger. The sources said the move was made in order to shift the offense back toward its blue-collar identity of years past, in line with the desires of team president Art Rooney II. During his time as coordinator, Arians turned the Steelers from a run-first team to a pass-heavy one to better suit Roethlisberger. Pittsburgh ranked in the top half of the NFL in offense over the past three seasons but finished a disappointing 12th this past season.
