Interim manager Dave Clark, minor league field coordinator Al Pedrique, former Milwaukee Brewers manager Ned Yost, San Diego Padres hitting coach Randy Ready, former Arizona Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin, former Washington Nationals manager Manny Acta, Boston Red Sox pitching coach Brad Mills, Red Sox first base coach Tim Bogar, former Astros manager Phil Garner and Philadelphia Phillies bench coach Pete Mackanin are all candidates.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin made sure to thank manager Ned Yost for his role in guiding the Brewers to the National League wild card. "Dale's done a wonderful job these last 12 games in a tough situation, with the pitching the way it was," Melvin said. "But this was part of Ned, too. I think our players recognize that. He took wins off his record to help get to this point."

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports former Milwaukee Brewers manager Ned Yost was caught by surprise when he was fired. Yost took a walk that morning trying to find answers to his team's swoon, and general manager Doug Melvin called him about a meeting. "I said, 'Are they going to fire me?' I said, 'No, not with 12 games left,'" recalled Yost, who has a year left on his contract. But when Yost entered Melvin's room and owner Mark Attanasio was there also, the message was clear. "When I saw Mark, I knew that was it," he said.

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal said one scout told him that Milwaukee Brewers manager Ned Yost appears tense. "There's a sense of panic, anxiety," a scout said. "The team picks up on it. He's a Nervous Nellie. A manager is supposed to calm you down, not rile you up." The Brewers have lost eight of 11, and Yost could be fired if the team misses the playoffs.
