Colorado Rockies C Wilin Rosario worked with former Major League catcher and New York Yankees C Tony F. Pena in the Dominican Republic for a couple of days during the offseason. "He helped me with my target and where to set up my glove," Rosario said. "I always like talking to people who have played the game for a long time. You can learn and get better."

White Sox | Dave Martinez may be the favorite to land managerial job

Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Dave Martinez is reportedly the No. 1 target of the Chicago White Sox for their managerial vacancy. The team is also interested in New York Yankees bench coach Tony F. Pena.

Yankees | Long comes in as hitting coach

The Associated Press reports the New York Yankees have selected Kevin Long to take over as the hitting coach after three seasons in that role with the Triple-A Columbus Clippers of the International League. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said the other coaches - Ron Guidry (pitching), Larry Bowa (third base), Tony Pena (first base) and Joe Kerrigan (bullpen) - want to return and that he is trying to work out contracts.

Nationals | Several candidates interviewed, but team willing to wait on naming manager

Bill Ladson, of Washington.Nationals.MLB.com, reports the Washington Nationals have interviewed several candidates for their vacant managerial opening, but the team is willing to wait until December, if necessary, to name a replacement. To date the Nationals have interviewed Houston Astros bench coach Cecil Cooper, Chicago White Sox third base coach Joey Cora, former Florida Marlins manager Joe Girardi, Atlanta Braves hitting coach Terry Pendleton, New York Yankees first base coach Tony Pena and new Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella.

MLB | Acta to Manage Dominican Team in World Baseball Classic

MLB.com's Barry M. Bloom reports New York Mets third base coach Manny Acta has been named the manager of the Dominican Republic team that will play in the World Baseball Classic in March 2006. He replaces New York Yankees first base coach Tony Pena in that capacity.
