Twins | Joe Mauer finding power stroke

Sun, 29 May 2016 17:35:52 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a 5-4 win over the Seattle Mariners Sunday, May 29, and he has homered in three straight games.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer has six homers on the year, and four have come in the last six games. The power surge is unlikely to continue, but a solid average should keep him owned in AL-only leagues and deeper formats.

Twins | Joe Mauer hits third

Wed, 25 May 2016 08:54:53 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer is hitting third Wednesday, May 25, with 3B Eduardo Nunez remaining in the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer hasn't done much with a .213-2-6 line this month, but the same can be said for the entire offense. He has a so-so matchup against Dillon Gee, but the three-hole gives him some upside today. Nunez has surprised with a .303-3-17 line this year, and he's a solid play in the low end today.

Twins | Joe Mauer on the bench

Sat, 21 May 2016 08:38:24 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ Saturday, May 21. 1B Byung Ho Park will start at first base and is batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Park has gone hitless in each of his last three games and is hitting only .233 so far this season. Owners in daily fantasy leagues probably will be able to find better options to use in their lineups.

Twins | Joe Mauer drops to three-hole

Thu, 19 May 2016 13:49:19 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer is batting third against Toronto Blue Jays SP Marco Estrada Thursday, May 19.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer has lead off each of the past eight games, but he went just 5-for-32 with a .250 on-base percentage atop the lineup, so dropping to third makes sense. It is also better for his fantasy stock, too. He isn't a threat on the base paths and hitting third improves his RBI opportunities. Still, Mauer is nothing more than a mediocre fantasy option in the majority of formats. His 11 runs, two home runs and 10 RBI thus far are extremely underwhelming.

Twins | Joe Mauer falters in leadoff role

Tue, 10 May 2016 23:51:28 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer batted leadoff Tuesday, May 10, against the Baltimore Orioles, but he was hitless in three at-bats with a walk and two strikeouts in the new role.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer has re-emerged as a must-start fantasy option due to his ability to reach base after struggling with inconsistency and injuries in the past couple of seasons.

Twins | Joe Mauer back in leadoff spot

Tue, 10 May 2016 13:59:51 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer is back in the leadoff spot against Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman Tuesday, May 10.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer was scheduled to hit leadoff last night before the game was postponed, and Paul Molitor hinted this is something that could become a regular occurrence. Mauer got off to a hot start but has cooled since, although his .420 on-base percentage leads the AL. It'll give him a chance to pad his runs totals, but otherwise it does little to boost Mauer's already low fantasy value. The big loser here if this setup continues is Danny Santana, who is hitting ninth.

Twins | Joe Mauer might stick atop lineup

Mon, 09 May 2016 20:14:43 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer was expected to bat leadoff Monday, May 9, against the Baltimore Orioles, but that game was postponed. He has never tried the leadoff spot in his career, but manager Paul Molitor wants to try the move to get Mauer, who leads the American League with a .420 on-base percentage, more play appearances.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners and DFS players will be glad to see more plate appearances, although his additional singles and runs scored might come at the expense of RBI opportunities.

Twins | Joe Mauer leading off vs. Orioles

Mon, 09 May 2016 13:59:53 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer is leading off against Baltimore Orioles SP Tyler Wilson Monday, May 9.

Fantasy Tip: Mauer isn't swift, but he does have a .420 on-base percentage to start the season, and since he currently sits with just one home run and nine RBI, he might fare better setting the table for the Twins. Keep your expectations in check with the veteran, but he isn't a bad source of runs and batting average, and he holds more value in OBP formats.

Twins | Three starters sitting for Twins

Sun, 08 May 2016 10:21:11 -0700

Minnesota Twins OF Danny Santana, 1B Joe Mauer and C Kurt Suzuki is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Sunday, May 8. OF Darin Mastroianni will start in center field and is batting seventh in the lineup. C Juan Centeno will start at catcher and is batting eighth, while OF Eddie Rosario will start in left field and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Rosario is the only one of the three that has had some success at the plate this season but he is hitting only .193. Owners probably should look for better options to use and avoid Rosario, Mastroianni and Centeno.

Twins | Joe Mauer sits out

Sat, 07 May 2016 13:27:57 -0700

Minnesota Twins 1B Joe Mauer is out of the lineup Saturday, May 7, with 1B Byung Ho Park hitting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Park has a blazing .400-2-5 line the last week, and he's a midrange option against Chris Sale.
