Pittsburgh Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez is still expected to be the team's starting third baseman after the acquisition of 3B Casey McGehee. McGehee will be the backup plan at third base, and he can also fill in at first base and in the outfield.

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired 3B Casey McGehee from the Milwaukee Brewers Monday, Dec. 12, for RP Jose Veras. McGehee became expendable when the Brewers signed 3B Aramis Ramirez.

Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said he expects 3B Casey McGehee to be in the starting lineup next season either at third base or first base if the team doesn't re-sign 1B Prince Fielder. 2B Rickie Weeks is the best option to hit cleanup if Fielder does not return.

Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke will start IF Jerry Hairston Jr. at third base for Game 2 of the National League Division Series Sunday, Oct. 2, even though 3B Casey McGehee is 5-for-5 in his career against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Dan Hudson. The rest of the starting lineup is the same as Game 1, with SP Zack Greinke pitching.

Milwaukee Brewers IF Jerry Hairston Jr. will start at third base in Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday, Oct. 1, in place of 3B Casey McGehee, who finished the regular season with only five hits in his final 58 at-bats. McGehee and Hairston are expected to split time at the position throughout the playoffs.
