Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker is eager to use RP Sean Marshall in another save situation after the lefty struggled in his save opportunity against the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday, May 9. "I want to get him out there, but not as eager as I was the last time (after an April 26 blown save)," Baker said. "The hard thing about being at the back end of the game, you're only remembered by what you did your last game."

Cincinnati Reds RP Sean Marshall allowed a three-run dinger against the San Francisco Giants to blow his first save chance in five tries Thursday, April 26. It was the 300th appearance of his career. Marshall allowed three hits while walking one and striking out one in the 22-pitch outing.

Cincinnati Reds RP Sean Marshall has officially been tabbed as the closer by manager Dusty Baker. "It's Marshall right now," Baker said Monday, April 2. "He can throw that breaking ball any time, which is tough to do in Arizona with this light air here. He's basically unfazed by situations and things. He's been around a while and he's a veteran guy that's had good success."

Cincinnati Reds RP Sean Marshall said Tuesday, March 27, that while he has received no indication he'll assume ninth-inning duties, he is confident he can get the job done. "Nothing yet. Obviously, the job is available," Marshall said. "I'd like the opportunity to pitch in that role. It's what's best for the team. If it's a closer-by-committee situation, that would work out good, too. We'll keep pitching well and work on improving each day."

Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker said he hasn't declared a closer for the team with RP Ryan Madson (elbow) out for the year. "So it might have to be that famous by committee, which I hate. Hopefully, someone will emerge. You hate to have to go through it until someone fails and then you have to go to someone else. That's the thing you don't want to get into," Baker said. Baker pointed out that RP Sean Marshall is unlikely to be allowed to pitch three days in a row, something that he would like his closer to be able to do.
