Oakland Athletics OF Chris B. Young (quadriceps) will play for Triple-A Sacramento Thursday, May 16, and is likely to come off the disabled list Friday, May 17. The team will decide to send C Luke Montz down or designate 1B Daric Barton for assignment to make room for Young on the roster.
Fantasy Tip: Michael Taylor was sent down to the minors today, so Young figures to platoon in the outfield with Seth Smith, as he was doing before. Young has power, but he won't do you any favors in the batting average category. This makes him an asset in cavernous mixed formats with deep outfield setups.

The Oakland Athletics released RP Jordan Norberto (elbow) Wednesday, May 8, in order to make room on the roster for 1B Daric Barton. The team will not rule out re-signing Norberto to a minor league deal, though, and Norberto is open to the idea. Norberto resumed throwing two days ago and made 25 throws from 60 feet Wednesday.
Fantasy Tip: Norberto is a nice weapon for any team's bullpen when he's healthy, which is why the A's are considering re-signing him. If they don't, expect another team to take a chance on him when he's ready to pitch in games. Norberto is unlikely to make a fantasy impact this season, though.

The Oakland Athletics placed OF Josh Reddick (wrist) on the disabled list Wednesday, May 8, and called up 1B Daric Barton from Class AAA Sacramento.
Fantasy Tip: Stash Reddick wherever possible, but recognize that his power might take awhile to come back even after he returns. With Chris B. Young (quadriceps) also sidelined, Michael Taylor should continue seeing playing time, sustaining his speculative deep-mixed value. Barton will probably be used in the mishmash of DH options and warrants a flyer strictly in AL-only games; his worth depends heavily on playing time, not necessarily stick skills.

Oakland Athletics OF Josh Reddick (wrist) reportedly is headed to the 15-day disabled list with a wrist injury. The move has not been made yet, but if Reddick goes to the DL the Athletics may call up 1B Daric Barton from Triple-A Sacramento.
Fantasy Tip: Well, this would explain Reddick's power outage at the plate. If his wrist has bothered him for longer than just a few days, it would explain his sub-.200 batting average. Reddick's job could be in jeopardy if he has to be on the DL for a while; the Athletics have a lot of outfielders.

The Oakland Athletics claimed RP Dan Otero off waivers from the New York Yankees Friday, March 29, and designated P Travis Blackley and 1B Daric Barton for assignment in corresponding moves. They also optioned RP Jordan Norberto to the minors.

Oakland Athletics OF Michael Taylor is receiving instruction from former 1B Scott Hatteberg on how to play first base this spring. "I think it would be foolish for me in this point of my career to not be able to go over there if something were to happen," Taylor said. "It doesn't necessarily mean that I'm going to be full time there, but being able to move around can only help me, because if an opportunity opens up here or anywhere else, I at least can say I have some experience there and I can help there." 1B Brandon Moss is set to be the starter at first base this year after going through the same thing that Taylor is going through. 1B Daric Barton is also around, but Taylor's right-handed stick may prove valuable.
