Of those 31 non-roster players, 14 are from the organization. The 17 minor-league free agents looking to catch on include Ps Jonathan Albaladejo, John Maine, Doug Mathis, Zach Phillips, Chad Qualls, Kevin Slowey, Jordan Smith, Mitch Talbot and Michael Wuertz. The non-roster minor-league free agents are C Craig Tatum, INFs Matt Downs, Nick Green, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Ed Lucas and Chris Valaika. The OFs are Jordan Brown and Austin Kearns. "It's a relatively large group and a lot of opportunity and I think there will be some good competition in a number of areas," team executive Larry Beinfest said.

If he makes the major league roster, he will earn a base salary of $1 million, with an opportunity to earn an additional $300,000 in incentives. The contract also includes a provision where he could ask for his release if he is still in the minor leagues by May 1.
