Wed, 14 Nov 2001 10:26:10 -0800 The Boston Globe reports Massachusetts State Police have charged New England Patriots rookie S Hakim Akbar with four violations stemming from his one-car accident on Interstate 95 near Mansfield early Monday morning. Akbar has been charged with operating his sport utility vehicle without a valid license, speeding, driving with the intent to endanger, and failure to remain in his lane. Akbar suffered a fractured collarbone and several other minor injuries and likely will be placed on the injured reserve list, ending his season.
Mon, 12 Nov 2001 11:31:30 -0800 Dan Pires, of the New Bedford Standard-Times, has informed KFFL that New England Patriots rookie S Hakim Akbar suffered a broken collarbone when he rolled his car over near the Massachusetts/Rhode Island border. He was ejected from his vehicle and landed in a marshy area. He's in satisfactory condition at Rhode Island Hospital but isn't likely to be playing in the near future, according to head coach Bill Belichick, adding Akbar "fractured" a few bones.
Sun, 09 Sep 2001 20:06:31 -0700 The Providence Journal reports the New England Patriots declared LB Ted Johnson, rookie DT Richard Seymour, RB Kevin Faulk, CB Terrance Shaw, OL Adrian Klemm, WR Torrance Small, and rookie S Hakim Akbar incactive for Sunday's game.

Wed, 06 Jun 2001 20:45:13 -0700 The Providence Journal reports in addition to the previously reported rookie TEs, rookie S Hakim Akbar is sitting out mini-camp because his school has yet to graduate and under NFL rules he can't practice. Sun, 29 Apr 2001 00:26:16 -0700 The Boston Herald reports the Patriots were happy on draft day when S Hakim Akbar, projected as a first day pick, fell to the final pick of the fifth round. They selected him and Akbar is now a part of a long line of players who feel they have something to prove to the 30 NFL teams who opted not to call his name on draft day. Akbar did have some issues that caused him to slide including the fact he had been through four agents and he refused to work out at the NFL's combine in Indianapolis. There was also a miscommunication around his Pro Day workout that he missed. Patriots coach Bill Belichick likens Akbar to teammate Lawyer Milloy and the Bears Tony Parrish. He called them "contact players," who are aggressive and hard-hitting.
Wed, 18 Apr 2001 10:31:11 -0700 The Baltimore Sun reports the Baltimore Ravens have an eye on Arizona State's Adam Archuleta, a linebacker in college projected to play safety in the NFL. They are expected to take a long look at him if he is still on the board when they pick at No. 31 in this weekend's NFL Draft. There appears to be one major hurdle for Archuleta lasting until the Ravens 31st pick. The Oakland Raiders have a need at safety and sit three spots ahead of the Ravens at No. 28. In will be interesting to see if the re-signing of S Marquez Pope alters the Raiders draft plans. If the Ravens wait until the second round for a safety, they should have the likes of Washington's Hakim Akbar and Memphis' Idrees Bashir still available.
