Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports the Indianapolis Colts have signed free agent RB Jonathan Wells (Texans) to an undisclosed contract. He went through a light workout in the afternoon Monday, Aug, 28. "I haven't even met with the coaching staff,'' Wells said. "I don't know what they're going to try to do with me. I have no idea. We'll see how it goes. Hopefully I'll get a fair chance to get out there and try to help the team.''

Wells says he's feeling great and is eager to start the season. "I'm very excited," Wells said. "This is what we do for a living and I'm glad to be back to it. Training camp is training camp. I'm looking forward to getting these preseason games out of the way and getting to Buffalo, actually."

Wells' 6-1, 245-pound frame lends itself to blocking, but playing fullback isn't something he necessarily sought out. Wells has now realized the switch was in his best interest. "They came to me in the off-season and said they felt we could add some versatility to the offense if Domanick (Davis) and I were in the backfield at the same time," Wells said during coaching sessions. "So I was welcome to the challenge. I'm definitely still a tailback. I've been that my whole life, but I'll definitely do whatever I can to get on the field." Wells also plays special teams with the Texans.
