The Chicago Tribune reports the Chicago White Sox signed former major-league OF Ernie Young to a minor-league deal. Young has played parts of eight seasons and will be a designated hitter and backup outfielder at Triple-A Charlotte.

The Rocky Mountain News' Tracy Ringolsby reports the Colorado Rockies signed veteran OF Ernie Young to a minor-league contract Thursday, Feb. 23. Financial terms were not disclosed. The 36-year-old will not attend big-league camp but figures to open the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs. Last year he hit .277 with 20 home runs playing for Triple-A Buffalo in the Cleveland Indians organization.
