Dodgers | No Yasmani Grandal against Tampa

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 10:18:30 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 27. C A.J. Ellis is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal has seven home runs and a 1.132 OPS in July, and while he's hot at the dish, he's a viable starter in all fantasy formats. Ellis is nothing more than a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and NL-only leagues, and you shouldn't fret fading him in daily contests Wednesday.

Dodgers | Yasmani Grandal, Yasiel Puig out

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 06:55:43 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal and OF Yasiel Puig are out of the lineup Thursday, July 21. C A.J. Ellis is hitting eighth, and OF Andrew Toles is hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Toles is hitting .267 in 15 at-bats, and Stephen Strasburg presents a tough matchup. His spot in the order doesn't lend him the upside worth the risk. Ellis isn't worth consideration with his .188 average.

Dodgers | Adrian Gonzalez gets a day off

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 12:05:51 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez is not in the lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Robbie Ray on Sunday, July 17. 1B/OF Scott Van Slyke will replace him in the field and bat cleanup. 2B Chase Utley, C Yasmani Grandal and OF Andrew Toles are also not starting, and will be replaced by INF Chris Taylor (hitting sixth), C A.J. Ellis (seventh) and newly promoted rookie SS/OF Zach Walters (eighth), respectively.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez remains a very good hitter (.287), but he has only homered twice and driven in 17 runs since the end of May, so he can be benched in most fantasy leagues. The same can be said for Utley, while Grandal emerged as a back-end starting catcher option with a strong first-half finish. None of the today's four replacements need to be considered outside of deep mixed or NL-only formats.

Dodgers | Chase Utley, Yasmani Grandal out

Thu, 07 Jul 2016 16:06:24 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Chase Utley and C Yasmani Grandal are not in the starting lineup against San Diego Padres left-handed SP Drew Pomeranz Thursday, July 7. 2B Howie Kendrick is starting at the keystone and hitting leadoff, while C A.J. Ellis is doing the catching and batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Utley and Grandal get the day off in the tough lefty-lefty matchup. Kendrick contributes modestly across the board, but even in the leadoff spot he's a low-end daily commodity unlikely to fill out the stat sheet. Ellis is at the Mendoza Line (.200) with a homer and 11 RBI and can be avoided everywhere.

Dodgers | Yasiel Puig, Yasmani Grandal out

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 10:29:21 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig and C Yasmani Grandal are out of the lineup Wednesday, July 6, with OF Scott Van Slyke and C A.J. Ellis hitting seventh and eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Van Slyke is a basement flyer if a lefty were on the mound, but he doesn't hit righties as well. Neither are good options against Kevin Gausman.

Dodgers | Two Dodgers sit out

Sat, 02 Jul 2016 15:35:43 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers 2B Chase Utley and C Yasmani Grandal are out of the lineup Saturday, July 2, with 2B Howie Kendrick leading off and C A.J. Ellis hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Kendrick has underwhelmed this year, but he has upside in the leadoff spot against Chad Bettis. Ellis doesn't deserve DFS consideration.

Dodgers | A.J. Ellis in, Yasmani Grandal out

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 14:48:21 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers C Yasmani Grandal is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 29. C A.J. Ellis is behind the plate and batting eighth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Junior Guerra.

Fantasy Tip: Grandal is mired in yet another extensive slump, with just nine hits in 55 at-bats this month to bring his season average down to .178. As a result, Ellis has been drawing more starts, but as they both continue to split time at catcher, each player's value goes down over the long term. Grandal's ceiling is always worthwhile, though, so certainly keep an eye on his progress in deep leagues.

Dodgers | Monday Dodgers lineup light

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 07:04:01 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager, 1B Adrian Gonzalez, 2B Chase Utley, OF Joc Pederson and C Yasmani Grandal are out of the lineup Monday, June 27. OF Enrique Hernandez is leading off, OF Trayce Thompson is hitting third, 1B Scott Van Slyke is hitting sixth, C A.J. Ellis hit seventh and SS Chris Taylor hits eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Thompson has struggled this month, but he has upside in the three-hole against Francisco Liriano. Hernandez and Van Slyke are worth low-end consideration against the lefty. Ellis and Taylor don't move the needle much.
