Padres | Matt Kemp dropped to three-hole

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 13:16:16 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Matt Kemp is batting third against St. Louis Cardinals SP Tim Cooney Thursday, July 2.

Fantasy Tip: 24-year-old Cooney is making his major league debut, so boosting up Kemp's ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) value Thursday isn't out of the question. Still, Kemp has an underwhelming .645 OPS which is low relative to his cap hit. He had been batting leadoff the past seven games, and the move to the three-hole should be viewed as a positive for his fantasy value.

Padres | Matt Kemp loving leadoff spot

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 20:48:05 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Matt Kemp is hitting .350 with two doubles, two homers and five RBI in five games since being moved to the leadoff spot.

Fantasy Tip: Kemp ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) was hitting just .192 in the 13 games before the move, so at the very least, it has woken him up a bit. He could be worth taking a chance on at FantasyScore in his new role.

Padres | Matt Kemp leading off vs. Giants

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 16:00:40 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Matt Kemp is batting leadoff against San Francisco Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong Wednesday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: Kemp ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) hasn't hit leadoff since 2010, and most of his work atop the lineup was back in 2008. Over 228 plate appearances hitting first, Kemp has a .290/.342/.471 slash line. He also has 12 hits through 35 career at-bats against Vogelsong. Still, Kemp hasn't been at his best of late and is nothing more than a lineup filler for FantasyScore contests Wednesday.

Padres | Matt Kemp finding power stroke?

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 18:47:35 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Matt Kemp went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a 3-1 win over the Oakland Athletics Thursday, June 18, and he has two home runs in his last three games.

Fantasy Tip: Kemp ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has doubled his home run total for the season in the last three games, but he is still hitting just .250. It is worth keeping an eye on him to see if he continues to show some power at the plate, but he shouldn't be considered a hot commodity at FantasyScore just yet.

Padres | Matt Kemp continues to struggle

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 15:24:53 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Matt Kemp went 2-for-14 in the series against the Atlanta Braves this week after going 1-for-4 with a strikeout in the team's extra-innings win Thursday, June 11. Kemp is hitting .249 on the season.

Fantasy Tip: Kemp's ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) price tag at FantasyScore isn't even enough these days for daily gamers to seriously consider him. Only two home runs on the year doesn't give much hope to his owners that he'll suddenly turn things around, especially when he plays his home games at pitcher-friendly Petco Park.

Padres | Matt Kemp taking day off

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 13:32:00 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Matt Kemp is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 10. OF Will Venable is starting in right field and hitting leadoff against Atlanta Braves SP Williams Perez.

Fantasy Tip: Venable ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has been pretty useful to fantasy owners and has seen consistent playing time with Wil Myers (wrist) out for weeks. At the top of the lineup, he presents a nice speed presence for those looking for a value play on FantasyScore tonight. All five of Venable's home runs have come off right-handed pitchers this year, too, and he owns an .825 OPS in 2015 against righties.

Padres | Matt Kemp ends homerless drought

Sat, 06 Jun 2015 19:53:54 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Matt Kemp went 3-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs and two runs scored in a 9-7 win over the Cincinnati Reds Saturday, June 6. It was his first home run since April 18.

Fantasy Tip: Maybe the big game will start a hot streak for Kemp ($3,700, 7.4% of cap), but he is hitting just .256 with 55 strikeouts and a .350 slugging percentage. Until he strings together a few solid games, he remains a gamble at FantasyScore.

Padres | Matt Kemp hopes slump is over

Wed, 27 May 2015 12:22:34 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Matt Kemp's bases-clearing double helped his team beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 4-0, on Tuesday, May 26. Kemp was hitting from the fourth spot instead of the third, which is now occupied by OF Justin Upton. Kemp was hitting .185 (17-for-92) in May.

Fantasy Tip: Manager Bud Black made this move to get Upton ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) up in the first inning and give Kemp ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) a bit of time to relax. It appears to have worked this week, but you may want to wait and see for one or two games if Kemp has found his bat again.

Padres | Matt Kemp breaks slump

Tue, 26 May 2015 23:45:52 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Matt Kemp, who was mired in a 16-for-91 slump this month, had a three-run double in the 10th inning Tuesday, May 26. The Padres beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0.

Fantasy Tip: Kemp ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) could have some more success as the month continues, thanks to one dramatic hit. Keep an eye on his progress and don't be afraid to use him if he shows more signs of snapping out of it.

Padres | Matt Kemp mired in bad slump

Thu, 21 May 2015 10:04:28 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Matt Kemp is 12-for-69 in the month of May after hitting .326 in April. He stranded six base runners in the team's loss Wednesday, May 20. On the season, Kemp is hitting only .259 with one home run, and his .649 OPS is lower than SS Clint Barmes'.

Fantasy Tip: Right now, Kemp ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is doing nothing to justify his FantasyScore price. Until he shows signs of life and busts out of his ugly funk, you should stay away from him.
