Joe Schad, of the Palm Beach Post, reports representatives for free agent RB James Allen (Texans) have contacted the Miami Dolphins for a possible tryout with the team. "I got the impression that they are going to take their time," said Steven Mandell, the agent for Allen, who worked out with the club in May." Allen retired before the 2003 season, but has since moved to South Florida from Texas and is close with Dolphins DE Jay Williams.

Updating previous reports, Carlton Thompson, of the Houston Chronicle, reports former Houston Texans RB James Allen officially applied for reinstatement in the NFL on Wednesday, Aug. 27. Upon reinstatement, Allen will be placed on recall waivers and can be claimed by any team in the league within 24 hours. After that, he is returned to the Texans. However, the Texans have indicated that they have no interest in bringing him back. Allen would then become a free agent.

Updating previous reports, Joseph Duarte, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans RB James Allen, who announced his retirement from the NFL on Aug. 10, has declared his interest in returning to football. "He wants to be playing football," Allen's agent Steve Mandell said. "At the time, he looked at his life and made a difficult decision. He's had a quick time to think about what he's doing, and the situation has changed for him when thinking about not playing football. Sometimes it takes being on the outside looking in, especially when you're a young man." Whether or not Allen will stay in Houston is uncertain. "Our total focus has been on the guys that we have here, trying to get them developed and going," head coach Dom Capers said. "When something like that happens, you kind of close that chapter and look to move on."

Houston Texans RB James Allen has retired after playing five NFL seasons, according to Carter Toole of HoustonTexans.com. Allen spent the first four seasons of his career with the Chicago Bears, before joining the Texans in 2002.

Joseph Duarte, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans RB James Allen was excused from practice Thursday, Aug. 7, to attend to personal business. Head coach Dom Capers said he isn't sure if Allen will be available to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Denver Broncos. "It just depends on whether he gets it resolved or not," Capers said.

The Houston Chronicle reports it appears the Houston Texans will continue to split the workload at RB between RBs Jonathan Wells and James Allen. "Those guys with their talents might be a little bit more geared with Jonathan being a first- and second-down back and James being a third-down back, and James spelling Jonathan in certain situations," coach Dom Capers said.
