The Redskins have reportedly informed QB Jeff George that they will not consider signing him. Agent Michael Sullivan said yesterday that Dilfer probably will be on the market this off-season, looking to start. Redskins | QB Situation

Wed, 26 Sep 2001 13:41:56 -0700

As previously stated, QB Tony Banks is the starter going into week three and Sage Rosenfels is anticipated to be the backup. Kent Graham was brought in by the team, because they felt they needed a veteran QB and Graham is not being looked at as a potential starter and will not compete for the No. 1 job. He will be battling Rosenfels for the No. 2 job. One of Bank's strengths is his ability to communicate and two receivers have already stated as such. That could begin to help in the process of the QB and receivers getting on the same page.

They may also scan the waiver wire or look for a trade. The Steelers are shopping Kent Graham and Eric Zeier is on the bubble in Atlanta.

The Post Gazette reports Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher confirmed QB Kent Graham will be traded or released before tomorrow's roster cutdown deadline. His release could suprisingly open the No. 2 QB spot for Tommy Maddox, not Tee Martin as many expected. "Right now, I'm not ready to make that statement," Cowher said yesterday, acknowledging it's possible. The Steelers are trying to find a team that might be interested in Graham's services. Cincinnati, who just lost Scott Mitchell for six weeks, could possibly have some interest.

Steelers | 20-0 Winners Over Bills

Fri, 31 Aug 2001 03:23:46 -0700

The Associated Press reports the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Buffalo Bills 20-0 Thursday night. The defense has only allowed seven points in their last two games. The Steelers offense settled for FGs after several long drives, just as it did against Detroit. QB Kordell Stewart looks much more comfortable and confident in new coordinator Mike Mularkey's streamlined offense than he did a year ago in Kevin Gilbride's system. Backup QB Kent Graham appears on his way out. He looks like he is almost certain to be cut as Tee Martin, who played the final three quarters, and Tommy Maddox back up Stewart. Bills PK Steve Christie missed field goal attempts of 22 and 40 yards. He missed seven of 11 during the pre-season, and his job could be in jeopardy.

Steelers | Battle For No. 2 QB - Graham Leads

Sun, 29 Jul 2001 21:32:37 -0700

The Post Gazette reports Pittsburgh Steelers QB Kent Graham is the early leader over Tee Martin for the team's No. 2 QB spot. Graham has been one of the early stars of training camp, looking like a QB contending for the No. 1 spot, which he isn't, instead of a QB trying to hold on to the position he held at the end of last season. "He's looked very good," offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey said of Graham. The veteran also knows he could be released for salary cap reasons if he loses the battle for No. 2.

The Tribune-Review reports Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher called the battle for the backup quarterback job "wide open." Veteran QB Kent Graham enters camp as the No. 2 QB, but second-year player Tee Martin will be given every opportunity to win the job. Tommy Maddox, "is going to have a little bit of catch-up to do," Cowher said.

Steelers | Battle at Backup QB

Fri, 15 Jun 2001 15:24:39 -0700

Gerry Dulac, of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, reports for the Sporting News that the fate of the QBs in Pittsburgh this year depends a lot on QB Tee Martin. If Martin is developed enough to be the No. 2 QB, Kent Graham would likely be released and Tommy Maddox would make the team as the No. 3 QB. Should Martin not be at that point yet and Graham holds onto the No. 2 job, Maddox would have a short stay in Pittsburgh. It's all expected to play out in training camp.
