Steve Reed, of the Gaston Gazette, reports Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith is closing in on some NFL postseason records. With two receptions in the NFC Championship game against the Seattle Seahawks Smith will break the all-time NFL record for receptions in a postseason. The record is currently held by WR Anthony Carter, who caught 23 passes for the Minnesota Vikings in 1987. Smith also needs 108 yards receiving to top WR Jerry Rice's 17-year old record for receiving yards in the postseason (409) with the San Francisco 49ers.

Paul Newberry, of the Associated Press, reports Atlanta Falcons PR Allen Rossum set a new NFL playoff record for punt return yards during the team's second-round playoff game Saturday, Jan. 15, versus the St. Louis Rams. Rossum recorded 152 yards on three punt returns, an average of 50.7 yards per return. The previous mark was held by former Minnesota Vikings WR Anthony Carter (143 yards) in 1987.

Former Minnesota Vikings WR Anthony Carter pleaded guilty Monday, Oct. 27, in West Palm Beach, Fla., to charges related to a domestic battery case, and received five years of probation. The 11-year NFL veteran was arrested in June on charges he beat his wife and pointed a handgun at her head. Carter must also attend a 26-week domestic battery course and meet monthly with a mental health counselor over the next six months.

Associated Press reports former Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions WR Anthony Carter was arrested on charges he beat his wife and pointed a handgun at her head. He was released from jail on Sunday, June 8, on a $5,000 bond. He was charged with domestic battery, assault with a firearm and false imprisonment. He was previously arrested in 1998 and 2000 on domestic battery charges.
