The Texas Rangers released Ps Joe Beimel and Mitch Stetter and OF Conor Jackson Monday, March 26. The team also optioned P Mark Hamburger to Triple-A Round Rock and assigned P Sean Green to minor league camp.

Texas Rangers OF Julio Borbon and RP Michael Kirkman are both stating their cases to make the opening day roster this spring. Borbon is 4-for-11 in his first six Cactus League appearances. OF Leonys Martin, who is competing for the center field job with Borbon, is expected to begin with Triple-A Round Rock. Kirkman has given up nine hits while walking just one hitter in five spring innings. He is competing with RPs Mitch Stetter, Joe Beimel and Neal Cotts for a bullpen job.

Texas Rangers RPs Michael Kirkman, Joe Beimel, Mitch Stetter, Martin Perez, Robbie Ross, Ben Snyder, Kelvin De La Cruz and Miguel De Los Santos are all in competition to become the team's left-handed specialist out of the bullpen, with Kirkman, Beimel and Stetter the favorites based on their experience. Perez is a wild card and one of the team's top pitching prospects.
