C Carlos Corporan is expected to be the backup, with Cs Chris Gimenez and Tomas Telis sharing duties at Class AAA. Chirinos led all American League catchers by throwing out 36.2% of attempted base stealers.

Houston Astros C Carlos Corporan (thumb) has been dealing with a thumb injury he suffered in June. The injury has affected the way he has swung the bat, especially from the left side. He has been trying to wear extra padding on the thumb and holding the bat a different way.
