Tue, 02 Aug 2005 17:04:18 -0700

Houston has two new starters for 2005 - LBs Morlon Greenwood and Kailee Wong - manning the starting inside spots. "I really like what I see of those two guys," said Capers. "First of all, they're real pros. They know how to prepare. Both are extremely hard workers. They do a great job in the classroom, and they're smart. And they're tough guys, too." Capers added that Greenwood is one of the team's quickest linebackers, while Wong's experience as an inside linebacker with the Minnesota Vikings allows him to be the "quarterback" of the defense. "I feel very comfortable with him making the calls," Capers said of Wong.

Texans | Looking to Pressure the Quarterback

Mon, 25 Jul 2005 20:53:11 -0700

Nick Schenck, of HoustonTexans.com, reports Houston Texans head coach Dom Capers has listed an improved pass rush as a critical area of need for the team's defense in 2005. "Our greatest goal on defense this year is to try and improve our pass rush," Capers said. "And there are a lot of different ways of doing that. It obviously starts out front, but the speed of your linebackers has something to do with that. And I like what I see in terms of the speed, the quickness and the change of direction of our linebacker corps." Capers' aims in moving LB Kailee Wong inside was to improve the pass rush, which tends to come more from the outside. Yet with Wong's experience as a pass rusher, the Texans should get more of a push through the middle, which could lead to more opportunities for the outside pass rushers, such as LBs Jason Babin and Antwan Peek.

In his current role, Wong will relay the play call from the coaches on the sideline to the players in the defensive huddle. It will require him to stay on top of the game more than in the past and have a short memory.
