Angels | David Murphy still an option for Angels?

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 14:30:39 -0800

Free-agent OF David Murphy (Angels) could still return to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and platoon in left field with a right-handed-hitting outfielder.

Fantasy Tip: The Angels are strapped for cash, and Murphy is a stopgap option for them. At best, he is a low-end outfielder in cavernous mixed and AL/NL-only leagues, as he doesn't project to receive full-time at-bats. He is a better FantasyScore option in favorable matchups.

Angels | Halos decline David Murphy's option

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 09:09:55 -0800

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim declined OF David Murphy's $7.5 million option Wednesday, Nov. 4, making him a free agent.

Fantasy Tip: Despite hitting in prominent spots in the order for the Angels, Murphy is probably pegged for a part-time role with another team. He doesn't have much mixed league value heading into drafts.

Angels | David Murphy playing left field

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 14:25:06 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF David Murphy will bat fifth and play left field against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez Saturday, Sept. 26.

Fantasy Tip: In 85 career at-bats versus Hernandez, Murphy ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is batting .294 with four home runs and 19 RBIs. He is worth considering as a FantasyScore value play tonight.

Angels | Erick Aybar to stay in leadoff spot

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 10:03:19 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SS Erick Aybar hit leadoff for the fourth time in five games Monday, Sept. 21, and he will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Manager Mike Scioscia wants to use OF David Murphy to protect 1B Albert Pujols when the team faces right-handed pitchers.

Fantasy Tip: Hitting leadoff helps Aybar's ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) daily value at FantasyScore, but keep in mind he's hitting only .226 (36-for-159) with one home run when leading off this year. The Angels remain a light-hitting squad even with Aybar setting the table. He'll likely remain a midrange FantasyScore shortstop with minimal power.

Angels | David Murphy setting the table

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 16:38:52 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF David Murphy is hitting leadoff against Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: A move to leadoff certainly raises Murphy's ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) daily value, but we don't recommend running with him against King Felix. Hernandez has been solid of late and has been even better against the Halos this year.

Angels | David Murphy playing left field

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 11:20:49 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF David Murphy will bat cleanup and play left field against Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis Sunday, Sept. 6.

Fantasy Tip: This is a favorable matchup for Murphy ($3,100, 6.2% of cap), who is batting .313 over the past week and is 6-for-17 (.353) with five runs scored against Texas this season.

Angels | David Murphy successful in LA

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 11:14:07 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF David Murphy is 8-for-22 with two home runs in his last six games.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) benefited from a classic change of scenery trade. He wasn't as successful in Cleveland as he had been in previous seasons, but it looks like the move to Anaheim agrees with his bat. His FantasyScore value is low enough that Murphy is a solid option.

Angels | David Murphy drives in four

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 20:09:32 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF David Murphy went 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBI in a 5-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles Sunday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Murphy ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) doesn't have many big games, but he is hitting .288 on the year. You could do worse if you're looking for a substantial source of cap relief at FantasyScore.

Angels | David DeJesus out of Sunday lineup

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 12:02:48 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF David DeJesus is not in the lineup Sunday, Aug. 2, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. OF David Murphy is in left field.

Fantasy Tip: DeJesus ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) projects as a platoon outfielder, but the absence of a DH most likely played a role in this. Because the game is at Dodger Stadium, pitcher Cory Rasmus is in the bottom spot. DeJesus should be back in a day or two, but keep an eye on his playing time.

Angels | David Murphy playing left field

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 17:21:45 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF David Murphy will bat fifth and start in left field against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: This could be a sign that manager Mike Scioscia prefers using Murphy ($1,900, 3.8% of cap) in left field versus right-handers, as opposed to David DeJesus ($3,600, 7.2% of cap), who is not in the lineup. Murphy is 4-for-16 in his career against Greinke and FantasyScore owners searching for cap relief should consider him for their lineups.
