If either Johnson or DL Seth Payne play well enough at defensive tackle, DL Anthony Weaver will be able to stay at strongside defensive end opposite DL Mario Williams.

Megan Manfull, writing for the Sporting News, reports Houston Texans DL Seth Payne is working to make the transition back to defensive tackle. He played in a 4-3 system for four years in college and for his first five years in the NFL. He has become used to the 3-4 schemes and playing nose tackle over the past few years though. Payne is splitting time with DT Robaire Smith at one of the tackle positions.

Nick Schenck, of HoustonTexans.com, reports Houston Texans DT Seth Payne says after two seasons of fighting through a variety of injuries, his body is healthy heading into 2005. "Yeah, my knee last year was a big concern," Payne said. "This year, I had a little minor surgery in the offseason. It's been a much different story this year. I feel 100 percent right now, where as at this time last year, I was really struggling to get back to being any kind of football player." Payne is expected to start at nose tackle.

Updating a previous report, according to Carter Toole of HoustonTexans.com, Houston Texans DL Seth Payne (knee) is expected to begin running drills in the next couple of weeks. Payne, who spent much of last season on Injured Reserve, has undergone three knee surgeries since tearing his ACL in Week 2. "I'm doing a lot of hopping, leg presses, squats, stuff like that," Payne said. "It's coming along." The eight-year veteran said he hopes to be back on the field before the end of the preseason schedule.
