He had been working out at the team's spring training and Class A complex in Jupiter, Fla. A statement released by the team revealed that the organization had become aware of pending legal issues against Allison, and he will remain inactive until they are resolved.

Allison, the 16th pick in the 2003 draft, was placed on the temporary inactive list in late June. He has been in Jupiter, Fla., and when he is considered ready to pitch, he will likely join the team's Gulf Coast League affiliate. The last time he pitched was in 2005 for low Class A Greensboro.

Allison was arrested in October and charged with felony possession of heroin and possession of a stolen vehicle. Guilford County Judge Susan Burch issued the warrant and a $2,500 secured bond after Allison missed the preliminary hearing. The charges carry up to four years in prison.

The hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 14, but was postponed in Guilford County's drug court. Allison was arrested in October on charges carrying a four-year maximum sentence, but lawyers have discussed allowing a waiver for jail time if he completes a drug rehabilitation program.

Allison also has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting a public officer, both misdemeanors, in connection with an Oct. 25 incident.

Allison was found lying unconscious on the bathroom floor of a two-story home Monday. Heroin was cited as the reason for his condition and he was taken to a hospital and released the same day. His last overdose came in 2004.

Allison started for Class-A Greensboro. The 20-year-old's career had been derailed after a heroin overdose in July 2004.
