Chicago Cubs 3B Ian Stewart (flu) returned to the starting lineup Monday, May 7, after missing one game due to the flu. "He's good enough," manager Dale Sveum said. "He's probably not 100 percent, but he's going enough to go out there for now."

Chicago Cubs 3B Ian Stewart (wrist) said his injured left wrist is not 100 percent healthy, and he doesn't expect it to be at any point this season. He's confident that he can play through it, and he hasn't had problems this spring. "It stinks to say, but I've kind of gotten to the point where I've got some nagging stuff that's probably going to linger for a while," said Stewart.

Chicago Cubs 3B Ian Stewart (quadriceps) was held out again Monday, March 19, while he's dealing with a tight quadriceps. He ran on a treadmill Saturday, March 17, but rainy weather kept him from workouts Sunday, March 18. "He'll probably play (Tuesday)," manager Dale Sveum said. "I haven't talked to the trainer to see how things went this morning. If things went well, I was going to DH him today to have a couple at bats when that left-hander (Jason Vargas) comes out of the game." Stewart is hitting .333 (5-for-15) in six spring games.

Chicago Cubs 3B Ian Stewart (quadriceps) took ground balls Friday, March 16, but is listed as day-to-day with a sore right quadriceps. X-rays were negative on INF Blake DeWitt's (hand) right hand after he was hit by a pitch Thursday, March 15. He is day-to-day, too. 2B Darwin Barney (side) felt better Friday after dealing with tightness in his left side.

Chicago Cubs 3B Josh Vitters is most comfortable at third base, but he has started to take grounders at first base, and played some right field in Arizona Fall League, looking to find a way onto the roster. 3B Ian Stewart is at third base and under contract through 2014, so Vitters is now blocked at the hot corner. With a new front office in place for the Chicago Cubs, Vitters feels a sense of urgency. "Oh, yeah, absolutely, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't," Vitters said. "I feel like everybody really does to some extent. Yeah, I got something to prove."
