White Sox | John Danks target for Yankees?

Tue, 22 Jul 2014 09:47:42 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP John Danks has been the subject of trade talks with the New York Yankees. Discussions appear to be in the early stages, and there's no evidence a deal is imminent.

Fantasy Tip: Danks' value wouldn't improve much if he goes to the Bronx, which is essentially just as dangerous on pitchers than U.S. Cellular Field, if not more so.

White Sox | John Danks, Chris Sale stay in place

Tue, 10 Jun 2014 20:24:06 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP John Danks will pitch Wednesday, June 11, and SP Chris Sale will go Thursday, June 12, against the Detroit Tigers, as manager Robin Ventura elected to simply skip SP Andre Rienzo's turn in the rotation following the rainout Tuesday, June 10.

Fantasy Tip: Danks will face Justin Verlander and Sale will be matched up against Max Scherzer in the final two games barring any additional weather interruptions.

White Sox | John Danks fine tuning mechanics

Wed, 28 May 2014 10:14:32 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP John Danks had one of his finest outings for the team last weekend, and he will continue to fine tune his mechanics with pitching coach Don Cooper during his bullpen sessions and extra work. He has cut back his workload in between starts a bit, but he likes what he's been able to accomplish and wants to replicate the work. Cooper has worked with Danks on his body weight during his delivery and the placement of his head. "It keeps me from falling off, helps me stay behind my pitches and in turn makes me more consistent," Danks said. "We noticed I was getting on my heels a little bit and that caused me to fall off the mound worse than I ever had and because of that I wasn't throwing nearly enough strikes, or good strikes."

White Sox | John Danks coming around

Wed, 12 Mar 2014 07:14:56 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP John Danks has looked effective so far in spring training and has shown promise with his cut fastball. "He's strong. I think he throws a little harder," said manager Robin Ventura. Pitching coach Don Cooper pointed out during Chicago's game on Tuesday, March 11, that Danks was showing the ball early on a few pitches.

Fantasy Tip: Danks has thrown eight scoreless frames in two starts so far this spring. He's allowed five hits and five walks while fanning three, though, so that takes some shine off his numbers. Still, in AL-only setups, Danks could be a decent middle-tier option among SP. In mixers, he's an effective watch-list candidate after your draft.

White Sox | John Danks' velocity returning

Fri, 07 Mar 2014 09:52:38 -0800

Chicago White Sox SP John Danks felt free and easy during his outing Thursday, March 6, in which he allowed one hit while striking out two and walking two in three scoreless innings. He used all four of his pitches and touched 90-91 mph on the radar gun "without humping it up there." Danks is feeling much like his old self this spring after having shoulder surgery in 2012.

He said the biggest difference in camp this year is that he has command of his cut fastball. "It's just strengthening, being able to get my arm where it needs to be and have enough behind (the cutter) to spin it right and make it move," Danks said. "Last year, I had trouble spinning it, and it was backing up on me and getting hit. This year, I'm able to drive the ball where I want, and that was proved by being able to throw it to both sides of the plate with the sharp break on it."

Fantasy Tip: Poor velocity after returning from shoulder surgery last year likely was the main culprit for his weak numbers. If the increased velocity is here to stay, Danks could easily return to form. Nobody is really clamoring to draft him as an end-gamer, though, but he might be a nice steal off the waiver wire early in the season.

Blue Jays | Interested in Gordon Beckham

Wed, 30 Oct 2013 12:17:05 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays are interested in trading for Chicago White Sox 2B Gordon Beckham. Left field and starting pitching are other areas of need heading into the offseason. Beckham is eligible for arbitration this winter and is under club control through the 2015 season. The Blue Jays also may try to pry SPs Hector Santiago or John Danks away from the White Sox in addition to Beckham. Toronto could have more than $20 million to spend this offseason. The White Sox are believed to be interested in Ps Aaron Sanchez or Marcus Stroman.

White Sox | Paul Konerko, Chris Sale won't be traded

Thu, 27 Jun 2013 14:59:54 -0700

The Chicago White Sox are willing to trade any play except for 1B Paul Konerko and SP Chris Sale this summer, according to rival executives. The White Sox could part with OF Alex Rios, SS Alexei Ramirez and SP John Danks, and they are currently involved in some discussions with other clubs. The Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies and Kansas City Royals could all be fits for Rios, and the Los Angeles Dodgers make sense for Ramirez.

Chicago could get the idea to sell RP Jesse Crain as a ninth-inning man during a soft market for closers. He has roughly $2.25 million left on his salary this year. SP Jake Peavy (rib) could wind up being the best available pitcher on the market this summer, but he still has three weeks before he's back from the disabled list. The White Sox will want a lot in return for Peavy, and other teams won't be sure he's completely healthy. 3B Jeff Keppinger's name has also come up, and 1B Adam Dunn may be hard to move.

White Sox | Rotation shuffled because of postponement

Wed, 12 Jun 2013 13:29:25 -0700

Chicago White Sox SPs Chris Sale, John Danks, Hector Santiago and Jose Quintana are now scheduled to face the Houston Astros from Friday, June 14, through Monday, June 17. The club's game on Wednesday, June 12, against the Toronto Blue Jays was postponed, and the White Sox have off on Thursday, June 13, so they have elected to skip SP Dylan Axelrod.

Fantasy Tip: The ChiSox may just be taking advantage of the chance to give Axelrod some extra rest after he was thrashed in his start on Monday. Perhaps Santiago has a legit chance to move ahead of Axelrod in the pecking order now, although that's of little importance for the foreseeable future.
