Braves | Nick Markakis leading off

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 14:50:28 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is hitting leadoff against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta Thursday, Aug. 20, while OF Michael Bourn falls all the way to ninth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been far and away Atlanta's most consistent hitter this year, but he won't have as may opportunities to drive in runs hitting leadoff, and he could be a disappointment tonight against Arrieta, who has been very stingy recently. Bourn ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) hasn't done much at all since being traded to Atlanta, and now he's definitely one to ignore in daily leagues while hitting ninth.

Braves | Nick Markakis hit streak snapped

Mon, 10 Aug 2015 05:27:03 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis had his 15-game hitting streak come to an end Sunday, Aug. 9, against the Miami Marlins.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) may have had a rough start to his Atlanta career, but he is hitting .300 now and has grown into a solid option in FantasyScore. His power is nonexistent and he hits better on the road, so keep that in mind as you put together your lineup.

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI in a 9-8 win over the Miami Marlins Thursday, Aug. 6, extending his hitting streak to 13 games.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has seven RBI during the streak, and all seven have come in his last five games. He doesn't have a ton of upside, but his steady bat makes him safe value play at FantasyScore.

Braves | Nick Markakis, A.J. Pierzynski streaking

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 10:44:07 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is riding a 12-game hitting streak in which he has a slash line of .340/.364/.434. C A.J. Pierzynski is in the midst of a 10-game hitting streak in which he's hitting .450/.476/.550.

Fantasy Tip: It's never a bad idea to ride a hot bat on FantasyScore. However, both Markakis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) and Pierzynski ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) don't have much power or speed to speak of, so their offensive upside is limited.

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is out of the lineup Sunday, Aug. 2, against the Philadelphia Phillies. OF Cameron Maybin moves into the leadoff spot against LHP Adam Morgan, OF Eury Perez will start in right field and hit second in the order.

Fantasy Tip: Perez ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) has three singles and three walks in 12 plate appearances against lefties this season, and he can be used in GPP tournaments in the hope he's able to get on base.

Braves | Nick Markakis cheered in Balto return

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis returned to Baltimore Monday, July 27, the play he spent his first nine years in the majors. He had a pair of hits in five at-bats, and was saluted by the team with a video montage while the crowd gave him a standing ovation.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has hit safely in six of the past seven, posting multi-hit efforts in three of the outings. He is a decent low-end FantasyScore option, just don't expect a lot in the way of power.

Markakis has at least one hit in five of his last six games and recorded three RBI during that span. Owners could consider using Markakis on FantasyScore, but there may better option for owners to consider.

Braves | Nick Markakis has good history against Greinke

Wed, 27 May 2015 10:11:06 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is 5-for-17 with a home run in his career against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke, who he faces Wednesday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the good track record against Greinke, Markakis ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is a pretty risky FantasyScore selection today against Greinke, who has been lights out all season long to this point.

Braves | Nick Markakis not hitting homers

Wed, 20 May 2015 11:16:32 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis has yet to hit a home run this year despite having a solid year to this point. However, he is 5-for-11 with a home run and two walks in his career against Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi, who he'll face Wednesday, May 20. Markakis is homerless in his last 39 regular season games and 148 at-bats. He has just seven extra-base hits (all doubles) and 37 singles in that time. Markakis has hit double-digit home runs in each of his previous nine seasons and had 14 home runs in 2014 despite playing with a herniated disc in his back. His reduced power could be related to the neck surgery he had last December after he missed much of spring training. He has stayed healthy this year, though, playing 37 of 38 games, including 36 in right field.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) is hitting .298 (42-for-141) with 10 RBI on the season, but he's not your prototypical cleanup hitter, and his placement there is likely to be a short-term deal. He won't go homerless all season long, but expecting another double-digit homer season might be foolish at this point. As long as he continues to swing a hot stick, he's not a bad FantasyScore option, just don't expect him to fill out the stat sheet elsewhere.
