Braves | Nick Markakis likes leadoff spot

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 10:04:16 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is 15-for-49 (.306) with a .424 on-base percentage and 11 RBI since he moved to the leadoff spot April 15.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis makes a lot of contact and gets on base often, but he has no home runs despite 19 RBI on the season. He's an acceptable player to roster in deep mixed leagues to buoy your average, but he won't help all that much in the counting stats.

Braves | Nick Markakis drives in three Thursday

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 19:57:34 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI in a victory over the Boston Red Sox Thursday, April 28.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis leads the National League in doubles (10) and is batting .305 through his first 22 games of the season, although he is still looking for his first home run of the year. He could be useful to owners in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues who want to improve their batting average.

Braves | Nick Markakis takes a seat

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 07:39:15 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is out of the lineup Thursday, April 21, with SS Erick Aybar leading off.

Fantasy Tip: Aybar is hitting .135 and facing Clayton Kershaw today, which doesn't give him much upside in DFS.

Braves | Nick Markakis coming up clutch

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 15:31:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is 11-for-21 (.524) with runners on base this year, which is third in the majors behind Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper (.600, 6-for-10) and Boston Red Sox 1B David Ortiz (.583, 7-for-12).

Fantasy Tip: Markakis has been one of the few consistent hitters for Atlanta in the early going. He's hitting .333 (15-for-45) but has no home runs despite 12 RBI. He doesn't run much, though, and won't hit for power, so he's strictly a batting average asset in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a run scored in a 6-4 win over the Miami Marlins Saturday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis is hitting .341 with 12 RBI, and while he won't continue driving runs at is current clip as the team's leadoff hitter, the career .291 hitter should provide batting average help all year.

Fantasy Tip: It wasn't all great, as Markakis did ground into a double play. He has a .333 average with six doubles and a .583 slugging percentage so far. While the Braves are 0-6, not everyone is in a funk. Markakis remains a solid fantasy option and DFS play despite the team's overall woes.

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 15:35:12 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis had three doubles Sunday, April 10, in a 12-7 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis is showing signs of coming out of the slump that dogged him in the past year. If he can do that, Markakis will be a decent fantasy option. He's not a regular outfield option by far, but Markakis could be a solid fourth outfielder for most leagues.

Orioles | Nick Markakis a trade target for O's?

Tue, 01 Mar 2016 09:40:46 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles have looked into reacquiring OF Nick Markakis from the Atlanta Braves.

Fantasy Tip: An increasing ground-ball rate gives very little hope that Markakis will rebound in the home run category, even if he went back to hitter-friendly Camden Yards. He's an average-driven fantasy commodity as depth for your outfield corps.

Braves | Nick Markakis feels good

Thu, 25 Feb 2016 06:19:38 -0800

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis said he feels good after a normal offseason, which was unlike last year coming off of neck surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis had a mediocre .296-3-53 year in 2015, but the 32-year-old could bounce back a bit this season. He's an outfielder to remember late in drafts to fill out your lineups.

Braves | Nick Markakis the next to go?

Sun, 13 Dec 2015 07:27:37 -0800

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Markakis is of trade interest to the Kansas City Royals, and he could also be on the radar of the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Markakis saw a number of his would-be home runs turn into doubles this past season, as he cleared the fence just three times and hit 38 doubles, which was his highest total of doubles since 2010. Markakis hit .296 and scored 73 runs, so there was value in deep formats, but Markakis doesn't move the needle enough in the power or speed departments to warrant attention in the majority of seasonal leagues.
