The Minnesota Twins will continue to give playing time to INFs Trevor Plouffe, Jamey Carroll and Alexi Casilla at third base while 3B Danny Valencia works in the minors. "We're just playing everybody," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Valencia is down in Triple-A trying to get his stuff right. Plouffe is up here trying to get his stuff right here. So we don't have a total solution. We have people we're going to try to mix and match." Casilla has more work to do at third base, and he's played third just eight times in his career.

Minnesota Twins SS Jamey Carroll will return to a super utility role with the call-up of SS Brian Dozier, who will start at shortstop. Dozier is hitting second in the lineup Monday, May 7.

Minnesota Twins SS Jamey Carroll (head) was grazed in the side of the helmet by a pitch in the first inning Saturday, March 3, in Grapefruit League play against the Tampa Bay Rays. He was able to remain in the game. "I think I turned enough, and the way it hit me, the impact knocked the helmet off more than it impacted my head," Carroll said. "So perfect timing. Thankful timing."

The Minnesota Twins owe SS Tsuyoshi Nishioka $6 million over the next two seasons, so he won't be cut, and it is unlikely he'll be traded, as no team will have interest in paying him. He will instead fight for a utility infielder spot behind SS Jamey Carroll and 2B Alexi Casilla.
