Updating previous reports, the Detroit Tigers exercised their $9 million option on CL Jose Valverde for 2012.

The Detroit Tigers are expected to exercise RP Jose Valverde's $9 million option for the 2012 season soon. Valverde went 49-for-49 in save chances this year.

Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland said all of his players will be available to play in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series Saturday, Oct. 15, including RP Jose Valverde, RP Joaquin Benoit, C Alex Avila (knees), OF Delmon Young (abdomen) and C Victor Martinez (oblique). SP Rick Porcello will be available out of the bullpen, and OF Ryan Raburn and 3B Brandon Inge will be in the starting lineup.

Detroit Tigers RP Jose Valverde allowed a hit in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday, Oct. 11, against the Texas Rangers in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series. He needed 16 pitches, but threw 11 for strikes. He has now converted 54 straight save chances dating back to last season.
