Blue Jays | Edgar Gonzalez to pitch from 'pen

Wed, 08 May 2013 13:50:11 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SP Edgar G. Gonzalez will be available out of the bullpen. The team has yet to determine who will take SP J.A. Happ's (head) place in the starting rotation.

Fantasy Tip: There a plethora of very mediocre options for the Blue Jays at Class AAA, including Miguel Batista, Dave Bush, Justin Germano and Claudio Vargas. Batista or Bush makes the most sense, but they'd basically just be filling needed innings on a temporary basis.

Blue Jays | J.A. Happ to the DL

Wed, 08 May 2013 12:17:43 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays placed SP J.A. Happ (head) on the 15-day disabled list with a head contusion Wednesday, May 8, and recalled SP Edgar G. Gonzalez from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Happ's fantasy implications are definitely secondary to his well being at the moment. Toronto will likely give him plenty of time to recover from an injury that could easily have been life-threatening. Gonzalez should only be considered in the deepest of AL-only leagues at the moment.

Fri, 22 Mar 2013 12:33:52 -0700

Houston Astros SP Edgar G. Gonzalez (leg) is feeling better after being hit by a comebacker on the back of his lower left leg Thursday, March 21. 1B Brett Wallace (neck) said he had no issues after leaving the game early Thursday with a pinched nerve in his neck and upper back. OF Fernando Martinez (back) hasn't played in a few days with tightness in his lower back, but he took batting practice Thursday and hopes to get into a game this weekend. He's hitting .333 with one homer and five RBIs in 24 at-bats in camp.

Astros | Two optioned

Wed, 20 Mar 2013 12:11:09 -0700

The Houston Astros optioned SPs Jordan Lyles and John Ely to Triple-A Oklahoma City Wednesday, March 20. Ps Alex White, Brad Peacock, Edgar G. Gonzalez and Erik Bedard are now battling for the final two spots in the starting rotation. Gonzalez is likely to be used in long relief. Lyles had given up 36 hits and 23 earned runs in just 11 2/3 spring innings.

Fantasy Tip: Lyles was working on some things this spring as he matures as a pitcher. Don't write him off after he made significant command gains at the end of last season. He'll be back. Peacock is probably the most intriguing pitcher in the competition for a roster spot and should be given a look in deep NL leagues.
