Athletics | Coco Crisp goes deep

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 05:21:41 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI against the Houston Astros Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp has been inconsistent at the plate so far this season but has three hits and three RBI over the last two games. Crisp should be in the starting lineup most nights but is not a strong fantasy option at this point.

Athletics | Billy Burns, Stephen Vogt out

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 11:53:47 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns and C Stephen Vogt are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. OF Coco Crisp is in center field and hitting leadoff, C Josh Phegley is catching and batting eighth, while 1B Billy Butler is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth against Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp is barely hitting over .200 in 54 at-bats this year, so he remains a low-end outfield consideration for DFS despite hitting atop the lineup. Phegley hit just .220 with four home runs against righties last year and isn't all that attractive, either. Butler is in there because he sports a .405 average (34-for-84) with two home runs and 15 RBI against Verlander in his career. He's a sneaky under-the-radar value play tonight.

Athletics | Coco Crisp out of the lineup

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 09:12:10 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Drew Hutchison Sunday, April 24. OF Mark Canha will serve as the designated hitter and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Canha has recorded two home runs and four RBI in his last three games but is still hitting only .182 this season. Owners in daily fantasy leagues could consider using Canha in their lineups, but he is not a great option in most leagues.

Athletics | Coco Crisp the DH Friday

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 11:51:30 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth against Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez Friday, April 22. 1B Billy Butler remains on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Butler has been the odd-man out more often than not in the early going after hitting just .190 (4-for-21 with no homers) to start. He's strictly a bench option in AL leagues now. Crisp (.195) hasn't started off hot himself and faces a hot Sanchez tonight. Crisp is a low-end outfield play in daily games.

Athletics | Coco Crisp, Billy Butler still out

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 11:51:19 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp and 1B Billy Butler remain out of the starting lineup Wednesday, April 20. OF Billy Burns remains the leadoff man and is in center, while OF Chris Coghlan is at second base and is hitting second against New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi. 2B Jed Lowrie is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp (.158) and Butler (.150) are both trending downward after slow starts to the year. Burns is a younger version of Crisp with plenty of speed, and he's a fine daily pick against Eovaldi tonight. Coghlan hits righties much better in his career and could be worth the flyer as a deep sleeper in the two-hole. Lowrie is coming off a four-hit game. Ride him while he's hot.

Athletics | Coco Crisp mired in a tailspin

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:17:40 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp was hitless in two at-bats Tuesday, April 19, against the New York Yankees to drop his average to .158. He is hitless in each of his past 15 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp cannot be trusted in any fantasy format or DFS play until he gets untracked. But reserve him in AL-only play, do not drop him just yet.

Athletics | Billy Butler, Coco Crisp out

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 11:23:49 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler and OF Coco Crisp are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 19. OF Khris Davis moves to the designated hitter spot and is batting seventh, while OF Chris Coghlan is starting in left field and hitting second against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has only six hits in 37 at-bats (.162) with 15 strikeouts, so until he breaks out of his funk it'd be wise to avoid him in daily formats. Coghlan hits righties well; all 16 of his long balls last season came against right-handers. He makes for an intriguing low-priced sleeper against Pineda Tuesday.

Athletics | Khris Davis not in lineup

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 11:23:19 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Kris Medlen. OF Coco Crisp will start in left field and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp had some success at the plate around a week ago but has gone hitless in his last 10 at-bats. Crisp could be an option for owners looking for speed since he has three stolen bases in the first few weeks.

Athletics | Billy Burns returns to lineup Saturday

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 10:30:14 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns is back in the starting lineup versus Kansas City Royals SP Chris R. Young Saturday, April 16, leading off and playing center field. OF Coco Crisp is not in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Burns is 7-for-25 with three stolen bases through his first seven games of the season. He remains a relevant player to own because of his speed, although he has been losing playing time in center field to Crisp recently.

Athletics | Khris Davis, Jed Lowrie resting

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 09:40:47 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis and 2B Jed Lowrie are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 13. OF Coco Crisp is starting in left field and is in the two-hole, while OF Chris Coghlan is starting at second base and batting sixth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has fizzled out of the gates, hitting just .167 (5-for-30) with 14 strikeouts. You should consider keeping him benched when he returns until he shows signs of life. Against Shoemaker, who had a 4.46 ERA last year and looked shaky in his first start this year, both Crisp and Coghlan could be sneaky daily sleepers Wednesday afternoon.
