Athletics | Coco Crisp out 6-8 weeks

Thu, 02 Apr 2015 05:59:21 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (elbow) will have surgery to remove a bone spur and chips in his right elbow. He'll be out six to eight weeks.

Fantasy Tip: This could open up a spot in left for Mark Canha, who is hitting .296-6-13 this spring. The 26-year-old Canha hit .303 with 20 homers and 82 RBIs in 465 at-bats at Triple-A last year. He's eligible at first base for the minimum $2,000 (4.0% of your cap) price on FantasyScore. He could be a first-week gem.

Athletics | Coco Crisp likely to land on DL

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 16:59:14 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (elbow) felt some soreness in his elbow during an intrasquad game, according to manager Bob Melvin, and a disabled list stint seems likely at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) should be avoided on FantasyScore for the first week. 1B/OF Mark Canha ($2,000, 4.0%) is having a big spring and could fill in at a bargain.

Athletics | Coco Crisp could play in opener

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 18:11:58 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (elbow) is cleared to play in a minor-league game Tuesday, March 31. If he is able to get into a spring game by Wednesday, April 1, or the Bay Bridge Series against the San Francisco Giants, manager Bob Melvin says Crisp could be ready for the opener.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp is brittle, so fantasy owners who draft him in yearly leagues will want to have plenty of depth at the outfield position.

Athletics | Coco Crisp shooting for Tuesday

Sun, 29 Mar 2015 14:53:50 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (elbow) is slowly engaging in light baseball activities over the weekend with an eye on returning to the active roster Tuesday, March 31.

Fantasy Tip: Be wary when taking Crisp, as pain in the right elbow could mean a lengthy stint on the disabled list. Right now Crisp should be drafted in middle to late rounds only, the later and better, and stashed away.

Athletics | Coco Crisp could return Saturday

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 07:10:51 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (elbow) could return to spring action Saturday, March 28.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp ($4,500, 9,0% of cap) has some ground to make up. Monitor his progress the next few days before deciding to use him as a low-end OF option on FantasyScore.

Athletics | Coco Crisp back on the field

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 16:12:03 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (elbow) surprised teammates and manager Bob Melvin by taking part in warmups Thursday, March 26, as he was supposed to be out a few days. Crisp is nursing a sore elbow and received a cortisone shot Tuesday, March 24.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries are nothing new to Crisp ($4,500, 9.0% of cap), however it is encouraging he is feeling better so quickly. At 35, Crisp is a long way from his prime and only returned nine home runs and 19 stolen bases last season after going 20/20 in 2013. He is well within late-round-flier territory in deep mixed leagues and unlikely to have any major fantasy impact outside of runs and stolen bases. He is aggressively priced and an ill-advised option at FantasyScore, too.

Athletics | Coco Crisp receives cortisone shot

Tue, 24 Mar 2015 16:58:20 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (elbow) received a cortisone shot. He's been dealing with reoccurring elbow soreness and will be out a few days.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp isn't a stranger to dealing with injuries. He hasn't played in more than 140 games in a season since 2007. Crisp is a late-round option who can help teams in stolen bases, while also potentially reaching double figures in homers.

Athletics | Coco Crisp injury update

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 17:29:43 -0700

Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (triceps) MRI results received Tuesday, March 10, showed no structural damage. He'll remain out at least a few days.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp is no stranger to being bitten by the injury bug. Thankfully, it appears he dodged a bullet here. Crisp remains a middle- to late-round target for his potential for double-digit homers and 20-plus steals.

Athletics | Coco Crisp undergoing MRI

Tue, 10 Mar 2015 09:46:50 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp's (triceps) X-rays on his lower triceps came back inconclusive Tuesday, March 10, and he'll now go for an MRI exam Tuesday. The team will have a better idea of his timetable after that.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp is 35 and has never played more than 145 games in his career. That alone makes him a very unattractive fantasy baseball option. When healthy, though, he can be a sneaky source of runs and stolen bases. Crisp is, at best, a late-round selection for stolen bases in deep mixed leagues.

Athletics | Coco Crisp moving to LF

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 10:20:16 -0800

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp will be moved from center field to left field this year in an effort to keep him healthy as he ages. OFs Craig Gentry and Sam Fuld will form a platoon in center field. Crips played in just 126 games in 2014 due to a lingering neck issue that he suffered while crashing into the outfield wall, and he hasn't played in more than 136 games since 2007. Crisp has appeared in left field 232 times in his 13-year career, including 138 times in 2205. Manager Bob Melvin expects Crisp to remain exclusively in left field this spring.

Fantasy Tip: The fact that the 35-year-old Crisp has had trouble staying healthy and on the field late in his career should tell you everything. When healthy, he's not a bad source for runs and stolen bases, but how much can you count on him? Consider him a late-round choice in deeper mixed leagues to round out your outfield group.
