The Associated Press reports Baltimore Orioles RP Adam Loewen (elbow) has abandoned his pitching career after deciding not to undergo surgery on the stress fracture in his left elbow. If he underwent surgery, Loewen would have been out for at least 18 months with no guarantee of being pain-free. Loewen will now try to return to the major leagues as an outfielder. "The good news is that we have a player that is very much a hitting prospect as well. And he has assured me he can still hit and wants to hit. So, the club is prepared to embark on that path with him. Once the season is over, we will start career No. 2 for Adam Loewen," said team president Andy MacPhail.

Loewen revealed that he's been experiencing constant dull soreness after another poor start Thursday, April 24. He said the pain gets sharper and more intense the more he throws.
