San Francisco Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (back, neck, finger) is not expected to be ready to take live batting practice until late next week. He has not yet participated in any Cactus League games.
Fantasy Tip: If Scutaro is sidelined for an extended period of time, look for INFs Tony Abreu and Joaquin Arias to see the bulk of the action at second base.

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy is worried about the progress of 2B Marco Scutaro (back), who is at least another week away from playing in spring games. "If you ask me at the end of next week and he's not playing or close to playing, we'll have to have another plan here," said Bochy. Scutaro started taking groundballs last week and did soft toss Friday, March, but he's "still a few days away from live BP." The team would like Scutaro to receive at least 30 to 35 at-bats in camp. INFs Tony Abreu, Nick Noonan, Brandon Hicks and Ehire Adrianza are receiving extra playing time on the infield as a result.

San Francisco Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (finger) and C Buster Posey will not play in the team's spring opener Wednesday, Feb. 26. Scutaro is being limited in order to strengthen his midsection, and Posey is just being rested per manager Bruce Bochy's request. The staff and Bochy think it's foolish to overwork Posey in spring training.

San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday, Feb. 18, that 2B Marco Scutaro will rest periodically, and that INF Joaquin Arias likely will receive most of the activity at second base when Scutaro sits. During spring training, 2B Tony Abreu and SS Ehire Adrianza are also likely to see time at second base while they compete for a utility role.

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (back) agreed that he will skip some drills in the first few weeks of camp to focus on soothing and strengthening his back. "It seems like when you have a bad back, your whole body feels (bad)," Scutaro said Tuesday, Feb. 18. "It's one of those things that's annoying, but you have to deal with it."
Fantasy Tip: The Giants plane to rest Scutaro periodically to keep him fresh, so his fantasy appeal will likely be limited to NL-only formats and the deepest of mixed leagues.

San Francisco Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (fingers), 38, will be eased into activities this spring and probably won't be in the lineup when spring training games start. Manager Bruce Bochy will also try to give Scutaro more days off than last season during the regular season. SS Joaquin Arias stands to see more playing time at the keystone as a result. The swelling in Scutaro's ring finger went down over the winter and his pinkie is straighter. He's now able to hold the bat normal again.

San Francisco Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (finger) is pain-free after having surgery to insert a pin in his finger after the season, and he's been strengthening his core in the offseason. The Giants plan to limit him early in spring training, and the team also plans to take it easy on OF Michael Morse (wrist) and SP Tim Hudson (ankle).
