Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan won't return to the team next season, a source close to the coach confirmed Thursday, Jan. 5. Also, cornerbacks coach Rod Woodson, linebackers coach Greg Biekert and safeties coach Kevin Ross will not have their contracts renewed.

According to a radio report Tuesday, Jan. 3, Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan was fired, along with linebackers coach Greg Biekert and secondary coaches Kevin Ross and Rod Woodson. However, head coach Hue Jackson refuted the report on a Sacramento radio show, saying he met with his assistants Tuesday, and only that a decision was coming sooner rather than later, "because that's only fair to the coaches."

Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson did not give a vote of confidence to defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan following Week 17. Jackson was critical of a unit that surrendered 433 points this season, an average of 27.1 points per game. "I think Chuck knows how I feel," Jackson said. "I'm disappointed over there. I have been. Chuck knows what I feel, and it's not good enough."

The Oakland Raiders rush defense has allowed just 3.2 yards per carry over the past three games, and head coach Hue Jackson said there is no secret as to why. "We're just getting people on the ground, basically," Jackson said. "Getting off blocks. All the things that everybody says, all the cliches that people use, we're doing them the best we've done them. Kudos to the defensive staff and Chuck Bresnahan, but the players, when it's all said and done, they have to make a decision in that locker room that they're tired of having the ball run at them like that, and that's what they've done."

Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan said his unit's top priority against the Denver Broncos in Week 1 and every week will be to stop the run. "We have to be physical, and that's what we're trying to do," Bresnahan said. "The primary thing is to shut the run game down and force the game to be one-dimensional. When you do that, you have the opportunity to do some special things."
