Brown played under Trestman, who once served as offensive coordinator with the Oakland Raiders. Brown wonders whether Trestman has the leadership skills to lead an NFL team. "(There's a lot more to coaching than just Xs and Os," Brown said. "You have to be able to deal with players and that's the reason (former Oakland Raiders head coach) Bill Callahan hasn't succeeded as a head coach. Because he's a smart guy, knows football like the back of his hand, but when it comes to leading (men), it's a totally different intangible you have to have. It's going to be very interesting to see how (Trestman) and Jay Cutler get along, that's for sure."

He also served as the Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator the last time they made an appearance in the Super Bowl during the 2002 season. Trestman is considered to be a quarterback guru, which should bring the best out of Jay Cutler. His offenses in the past have focused on the passing game. He also likes to use his running backs as receivers, which should also suit Matt Forte's talents.
