Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz gave PK David Akers a public vote of confidence after he missed his fifth kick of the season in Thursday's 40-10 win over the Green Bay Packers, but the Lions are planning to work out kickers next week as they weigh their options at the position. Akers, who signed a one-year deal to replace long-time kicker Jason Hanson in April, has made just 15 of 20 field-goal attempts this year and the Lions rank 29th in the league in field-goal percentage.

Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz is preparing his game to face either Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers or QB Matt Flynn, or even QB Scott Tolzien although most media reports have Flynn definitely starting the game on Thursday, Nov. 28. "We have game plans ready for all those different things," Schwartz said. "Whatever quarterback they throw out there, we'll be ready. We've looked at all three of them that have potential to be able to play in this game."

Detroit Lions DE Devin Taylor is likely to see his role increase in Week 10, and got praise from head coach Jim Schwartz. "He's played well in every role that we have given him this year,'' coach Jim Schwartz said of Taylor. "He's affected games and that's what we expected when we drafted where we did. When Jason Jones went down, he needed to step up. If we need him to step up more, we think he's capable of doing that."

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said there were some encouraging results from tests on RB Montell Owens (knee) knee injury after the game, but it is still unknown how bad the injury is. "It didn't look good, but we'll wait and see what the tests look like," Schwartz said. "There was some encouraging things from the tests they did afterwards, but you really don't know. It'd be premature to even speculate on where he is."

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) did not participate in the team's third preseason game because he is not back to full strength yet. "Calvin wasn't quite 100 percent and we made the decision to sit him down until he's 100 percent," Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said. "We need him 100 percent going into the season. So we just decided to scratch him at the last minute."
Fantasy Tip: Even with Johnson sitting out, it sounds like he is close to being ready, and is the top fantasy football wide receiver in any format.

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said all three of the teams running backs, Reggie Bush, Mikel Leshoure, and Joique Bell, will have a role in 2013. "Joique runs the ball a little bit different than Mikel, but they both run a little bit different and present different things than Reggie, and I think that combination of guys is good. People like to say running back by committee and things like that, but each guy will have a role. There will be plenty of touches on the offense for everybody."
