Carlton Thompson, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans rookie LB Jason Babin, a collegiate defensive end, received practice reps at left outside linebacker during the team's minicamp, May 7. The plan is to convert Babin to outside linebacker in their 3-4 defensive scheme and shift veteran OLB Kailee Wong over to the right side. "With Babin and/or Peek or (Anthony) Dunn or some of these other young guys we have the roster, they're bigger guys and maybe they can stand up better to the running game over there and maybe take some of the load off Kailee from that point of view," Texans defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said.

As an update to previous reports, the Houston Chronicle is reporting Vic Fangio, former defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, has reportedly accepted the same position with the Houston Texans. He will be introduced at a news conference next week. In Houston, Fangio will be reunited with Texans coach Dom Capers, under whom Fangio served as defensive coordinator from 1995-1998 in Carolina.

The Houston Chronicle reports it appears the Houston Texans are moving closer to hiring Vic Fangio as their defensive coordinator. Former Colts coach Jim Mora said Fangio already has been offered the job by the Texans, although Texans head coach Dom Capers said "nothing formal has been done." "I've worked with Vic for 12 years, and I know him as well as anyone," Capers said. "He's an outstanding football coach. But right now, things are just preliminary."

The AP reports the main reason the Indianapolis Colts fired coach Jim Mora was he refused to fire defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who had worked for Mora in each of his head coaching stops since 1983. Mora said there were other reasons that he was not free to discuss. "I was convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt and still am that the best way for us to be a good team was to keep Vic as defensive coordinator. Obviously that opinion was not shared," Mora said during a news conference. Mora said Fangio already has a job offer to be a defensive coordinator, but he did not identify the team.

Michael Marot reports for the Associated Press an emotional Jim Mora said after Sunday's game he wants to remain coach of the Indianapolis Colts. "I will not quit. I will not quit," Mora said. "I want to coach here, I should be the coach here." Team president Bill Polian declined to answer questions about Mora's security following a 6-10 season. Mora has one more season remaining on his five-year contract. A large part of the Colts problem was a defense that ranked among the worst in the league against the run, against the pass and in scoring. Mora said he met with Polian regarding defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, but he would not dicuss any details. Mora defended Fangio as one of the best defensive minds in the game.
